Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I don't have a Porsche yet. I was going to get one last year but due to some incidents it was postponed. I am looking to get one mid summer or early fall this year. I am looking at a C4S. I like the wide body look. I don't really care for the turbos. I don't know if the turbos are as reliable as the NA engines. Last time we had a turbo, my sister and my lack of knowlege blew the turbo... So I have a turbo stigma.... Anyway, the question is I am going to be first time Porsche owner. Is it recommended that I start with the boxter and as I gradually get better at driving move up to 911? or the 911 is good for beginners also. I have been driving mostly M cars, 330s and s2000 in the last few years. Yes, those cars have decent power, but no comparason to 911. Please advise of things I should look into. Raja ps. i am already looking into attending the Porsche Driving school in GA (down atlanta)

POST 2Original post

i have owned every porsche model that has been made since 1986, with the exception of the gt2 and cayanne. i presently have a tt. you can safely buy a 911 and enjoy it, especielly a c4s. with the safety features in that car, you can do just about anything reasonable and have a good, safe time. the driving course is not a prerequisite, but it is a good idea. have a great time.

POST 3Original post

I drove a 986 S for two years before picking up the C4S. A great way to step into the marque, loved it! I don't think that there is any such thing as a beginner Porsche, if a 996 is what you want...go for it, but one thing-it's Boxster (not Boxter)

POST 4Original post

I'd agree with all the others. No such thing as a beginner Porsche. A 911/996, whether the C2, C4S or turbo, is quite refined when you need it to be, or a beast when you want it to be. Go for it.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys. I appreciate the comments and advises. I am so excited about the C4S. Although this 997 keeps making me want to wait. But I guess every year they will have new models coming up. I was at a concourse today and they had a c4s i totally loved. hheheh. sorry, it's boxster. I spelled it wrong earlier. Raja

POST 6Original post

Having owned a Boxster and now a C4S, either is great for pushing it or just cruising in. BTW,it sounds like the 997 is a few years off.

POST 7Original post

I'd rather wait for the 997 else C4S with no doubts

POST 8Original post

Hey Raja, go for the C4S w/o trepidation. I was a newbie to Porsche as well and went with a C2 w/PSM. The only time I have been able to kick the tail out in the dry is on the autocross course. Still, just be aware of the physics of carrying the majority of the weight behind you and you'll be fine.

POST 9Original post

LIL RAJA, I understand the apprehension....i too am a first time porsche owner and starting with the 2003 C4S. Respect for the car's ability and evils, awareness of your limitations and those of others, and good driving instruction should be where you focus...the C4S is far more "safe" than the other cars you've driven...but, any car can be far more "dangerous" if not approached with respect and awareness. Don't let another day go by that you aren't a day closer to your first Porsche! Good luck

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

wow! i think i even got the approval. I was just finishing up my ar library when I was putting up the c4s, the tags had my birth year on it. Was that some sort of hint or what? I will take next two weeks to prep my car for sale and then I will take one step closer to owning this dream machine. Raja

POST 11Original post

I bought my first Porsche, a 1999 911 C2 about 2 years ago. Phenomenal car. I've had BMWs and corvettes and liked them, but like Tom Cruise said - "Porsche, there is no substitute". I, too, was looking at a Boxter. I'm glad I went for the 996.

I am not trying to be critical off you, but you burned up a lot of space and the time of folks who tried to help you on the FunCars forum last year....as I recall you faded away because you were just playing.. Correct me if I am wrong....I recall addressing your slang, changing names and email addresses in a private email....and you promised to be honest, clean up your act and or go away....or you were banned. I hope your are not playing again
