I know early orders were tough to get a deal on, but has anyone had any luck getting $ off of MSRP? I went to two dealers who said no way, but another quickly offered my 3000 off, provided I don't say who (said he could only offer it on his one custom order remaining). I was very hapy with the deal, and gave 1000 bux on the spot. Any others? Peace, Michael

I got $2K off a Dec build.
Michael, Think about it. Your car at 74k msrp has 9,500 GP for the dealer. If you were a dealer and had a chance to close a deal w/ 6,500 GP (OR SEND THE CUST. TO ANOTHER DEALER)money in hand and there were plenty of units around stock and order slots, would you take the deal? The dealers don't love these cars we do, they love GP.... Patch
I agree, but the question is why 2 out of 3 dealers did send me on my way? Both of these dealers said they were sure they could sell all they had at full price. Maybe they can, but I doubt it. I was very happy with the deal I got, especially as it took no real effort on my part, and was actually more than I expected off of MSRP. Peace, Michael
Good for you asking!!! Alot of guys on this board paid full pop. The dealers have stock available and line slots for build available the rest is a smoke screen.
A lot depends on where you live, if your willing to travel to get your car, etc. My dealer sold all of his first 3 months allocations in three weeks. Discount........no. I don't mind as I have bought other cars from the same dealer andreceived great deals. My dealer also has provided me with tons of freeor low cost parts, free service items that could have been billable, top of the line loan cars at a moments notice, and often go out of their way to make everything right. They also know where you bought a car and like loyal customers......and this made a big difference to a Boxster S owner friend of mine who got a free engine replacement out of warranty coverage saving him about $9K. The service departments attitude for loyal customers is always 'we'll take care of it'.......and they mean it. There are two other dealers around that aren't so good on such matters, so saving 1 or 2K on initial purchase is not worth it to me.......I would still take MSRP and my dealer any day. Of course it never hurts to shop around and get some money off, but also take the time to look at some of the intangibles when buying. Believe me, they can and will make a difference in the long run. This coming from a guy that used to hunt every car bargain around.
Think globally, buy locally.... unless your dealer jerks you around. Then find a dealer you can work with. I'm lucky to have a great dealer who I like locally.
I agree with all that has been said about dealers. I bought my Audi for a good price from the closest dealer, and have been so dissapointed with the service, I looked elsewhere for the Cayman. Being in Boston area, I had my choice of 5-6 dealers, and chose the one that had the best reputation for service. It is a small dealership, and I got a very good feeling talking to the salesman and the manager. Would I have still bought there if a bigger dealer has offered a better deal? Probably not, but I am glad I did not have to find out!
You are right, we love loyal customers and so does PCNA!
A loyal customer doesn't have to pay full pop do they? Does the service dept. bring up the transaction sheet when a customer arrives for service? Let's see what the gross profit was before we help this guy. Don't think so, a relationship is a two way street. It's called respect a dealer and customer both getting a good deal. Let me tell you when our cars are out of warranty or we need to buy parts the dealer will make plenty of money. Service will have a 65-70% margin minimum and parts 30-35% minimum margin. I don't feel sorry for these guys it's business and at those margins they need to support the customer with first class service.. I'll bet you that the dealer were Atlas purchased has stock units on the ground or coming w/ additional allocation.
On my next Porsche I will not pay MSRP, this time I tried for a discount, but did not get it. Russ
I don't think anyone is feeling sorry for the dealer here. It was just a fact......if I wanted a first three month build date it was MSRP from my dealer.......the waiting list was longer than the first allocations. Could I order one now at a discount for a mid '06 delivery?.....most definitely. Right now my dealer only has the Silver PCNA car.......nothing more. I do know they have had one or two owners back out of their cars and theymay go to the lot as most early buyers wanted something custom and didn't want to take someone elses choices. Could I take one of these at a discount, sure. In the past 10 years I haven't paid anything for service......all Audithough (wifes car). For my Porsche 928 I do all the work myselfbut get all parts fromthe dealer at near cost as I have a good relationship with the parts manager and also have a few contacts at other dealers. Yes, dealers do know where you bought the car, where its been into service for (if another dealer), etc. They do keep track and look at it.......and often make judgement calls on little and big things when they crop up. I have easily saved a few grand over the years because of it. For me scrounging a discount on a Cayman just wasn't a priority......
