Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi... I am new to this forum :thumb: but have owned a few 993's over the years... I have the chance to purchase a 1999 996 silver with black leather, sports seats, manual with a genuine 46000 miles. 3 owners, full history, mint condition . I will be buying the car of a family member who has owned it for the past 6 years. The cost would be £16500. I wanted to keep it for approx 1 year taking the milage upto 58000. Assuming that there are no major expenses do you think I will recoupe most of the funds in 12 months time? :dont know: Appreciate any comments.. Thanks Reecy

POST 2Original post

Hi,having recently bought a similar (lower mileage) car,i would like to think so.Although you can buy cheap cars i think the nicer condition, mileage, spec will always hold a bit better money,i think this applies for most enthusiat cars not just Porsche....i sold my RS4 to buy my Porsche and got every penny i originally paid for it yet there are still several RS4's for sale that were on the market before mine.....just buy as well as you can but at the end of the day ENJOY!! I do..

POST 3Original post

Its difficult to know what will happen in the next 12 months, but its unlikely a standard 996 will keep its value :dont know: Mine hasn't! :x

POST 4Original post

They seem to have a levelled a little and I have to hope / believe that they cannot get much cheaper, parrticularly those in good shape with low miles.

POST 5Original post

I think you will lose money on it, but not much. They are on a pretty flat part of the depreciation curve. If you lost £1500-ish in the year, would it worry you? To me, that's cheap motoring. If you keep it in good shape, it should be a very saleable car at around £15000 in a year's time. Just my 2p's worth.

POST 6Original post

You will lose money on it for sure, but not alot.

POST 7Original post

Whilst none of us can predict the future, my own opinion is that you will lose money on it - 996 values will keep falling, but probably not dramatically (a gradual slide towards the '£10k 911' over the next couple of years I think). The 996 was produced in far greater numbers than any previous 911, and (GT2/3 or RS models aside) I can't see them holding their value like 993s seem to have (even the C4S). Plus with the 997 getting cheaper all the time, and again having been produced in (relatively) large numbers, this will push 996 values down correspondingly (in a couple of year's time, who would buy a £20k 2004 996 C2 when they could probably get a £20k 2005/6 997 C2?). Sorry if that sounds negative, don't let this put you off buying a 911 - just imagine spending the same amount on a new Ford Focus, and what that would be worth after 12 months , then go and buy the Porsche... :thumb:
