Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, hope someone can help, my car would not start today, so i ended up jump starting it , took it for a long drive, i notice when i 1st start it up the voltage gauge is between 12-14 volts, then after a while it drops to just under 12 volts. Do you think the alternator is on its way out ? or could it be the battery ? the charging light is staying off. Also when i load the system by puting the air-con, radio, and headlight on at the same time the needle drops a bit more, any help appreciated, PS car is a 2002 c4s.

Quick update, managed to borrow a multi meter today, the battery is only showing 11 volts, when the engine is running it goes up to over 13 volts. I also borrowed a battery voltage tester, i had to disconect the battery to check it, the gauge said no voltage shown, so off to get a new battery tommorow. Thanks for the replies.
