POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2004 911 Turbo Cabriolet with hardback seats. Since I have a full leather interior I think the hardbacks are wrapped in leather, but the leather is in really bad shape. Does anyone know how I can restore them back to new condition? I either want to restore the leather, Or if there is a way to remove it and then paint the hardbacks car body color, I would do that. And if anyone knows any shops in Long Island/New York/Newy Jersey that do this please let me know who they are. Thanks, Ted

POST 2Original post

Personally can't stand the way it makes the seats look - like they're already frumpy from the factory. Why would you pay more for this? Are there any advantages??

POST 3Original post

I don't even know how its different? What does supple mean? Softer?

POST 5Original post

Supple leather automatically means that the car has full leather and that's why it costs more. I personally don't care for it but if I were a used car shopper a car with supple leather often reveals an older more mature owner . Supple was very popular in the mid 90's which implies that the owner has been a repeat Porsche owner and simjply retained an old school style.

POST 6Original post

my main complaint is that supple leather doesn't wear as well. After 30K miles it starts to show creases, especially if not cared for properly. to Axxlrod - seats with supple leather have additional leather in the middle inserts (i.e. the middle parts of the seats, as opposed to the surrounding parts, have extra material). One might call them poofy looking.

POST 7Original post

I think all leather seats start to show wear by 30k miles.. it's just that the supple seats STARTED looking rumply and worn.. and they only get worse from there! Is there any comfort benefit?

POST 8Original post

I prefer supple leather (though didn't realize until the car I found happened to have it). The main reason why is that I HATE perforated leather. To me, it is a bunch of holes that you just wind up seeing the side of the leather in each hole. This is particularly noticable on black leather. But hey, I'm the first to admit, strange things bother me.... Either way, I defintely appreciate the "full leather" option. It dresses up one the weaker attributes of 911's. Of course ANY 997 interior is WAY better than the 996...

POST 9Original post

Here's a nice example of supple leather in terracotta. I agree with Larry -- it definitely makes a 997 interior look more old school (not a bad thing, just different).

POST 10Original post

Jogging my memory -- back in 1995 with the 993 there weren't all these seat choices like now. In fact there wasn't even an "S" --just a base 993 . Even the Turbo didn't arrive until 1996 . So the seats were a standard seat and with "full leather" the seat was hard . I didn't have full leather BTW . I had partial leather manual seats . I suppose Porsche must have come up with the idea to offer supple leather to add a dimension to the comfort seat . The car was so basic back then . Memories !!!!! My first 911 !!!! The 997 really burst onto the seat offering scene with many choices --even more than the 996 , and better !!!! Yet the older and more traditional owners never forgot supple and Porsche didn't let them down . Even though I like the more modern choices I am glad that Porsche kept this .

POST 11Original post

My dad had many Cadillacs in the 60s, 70s and 80s......my wife drives an Escalade, and I sold a 2007 Lexus SC430 for my current 2009 triple black Carrera............. The black interior looks ok and looks like it will wear well, but I have no complaints about "supple" leather used in luxurious interiors. It is not a bad thing.............

POST 12Original post

I like the supple leather option too, but it's also b/c I HATE perforated leather. It just seems cheaper to me somehow. I wish Porsche would offer a leather option that is snug, form-fitting, and non-perforated.

POST 13Original post

I personally hate supple leather and it would even be a deal breaker for me. I've never understood how any one can like it because it just looks so old right off the showroom floor, and by old I don't mean retro, just worn and loose.

POST 14Original post

<<I personally don't care for it but if I were a used car shopper a car with supple leather often reveals an older more mature owner.>> Does this mean that the owner thought it would fix his hemorrhoids ?? Ha ha ha

Quote: 993 had full compliment of leather interior opt.s available along w/all seat options (except heat). 1995 launched C4, first all-wheel since 1989. I have supple on most cars & prefer......to ea his own.

POST 16Original post

I had supple leather on my prior 997, and I quite liked it too...

Quote: Yes, but I also found it's a little nicer to sit on than the standard perforated leather.

POST 19Original post

Every time I see supple leather whether it's on a 993/996/997 it doesn't wear well. It starts to look like tea bags (and I don't mean Lipton).

POST 21Original post

I currently own 3 Porsches (One with supple, one with sport seats and one old 83 930s with whatever the leather seats are..almost like old leather chairs). The supple are by far the most comfortable and hold you very well. I can understand the people who hate them for how they look..PS they look fine when you're sitting in them!!

Quote: The 996 tended to have an interior in general that did not hold up in the same manner as the 993 and 997 . I am not sure if it was a result from an inferior leather or not . I had two of them and both required a lot of interior car care . The 993 would be a 15 year old car or so . It's hard to expect it not to show wear and tear. As for the 997 -I have not seen too many in supple other than in pictures so i simply don't know but I imagine that since more surface area is exposed it woild have to reveal the wear if not properly cared for.

POST 23Original post

I like them. The seat seems to be more "stuffed" and softer without any reduction in support.

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 2624362

Quote: That shouldn't be.....I'd say those examples are people not taking care of there leather (or a an unfortunate collection of poor hides ). It can wear very well.....with regular care that good leather deserves. Not talking a garage queen either....10-15 yr old daily drivers.

POST 25Original post

I am another one who like the supple leather. Had it in my 1996 993 and it held up well. Is it worth they money, that I am not sure.

POST 26Original post

I've got Sea Blue Supple Leather in my 997.2 and really like it. This is my first Porsche and I wanted a comfortable car with a classic look as I intended it to be a daily driver.

+1 on no to supple leather, wears much worse then not.

POST 29Original post

IMHO, if you wear a thick wallet in your backpocket, the regular "flat" seats may end up showing a "bulge" in the leather because the wallet and your body heat will cause stretching of the leather. If you look at enough cars on ebay, you will often see this on driver seats. Supple leather doesn't seem to display the same as much because of the "crumpling" already present - that was one reason for which I liked mine.

Quote: Maybe I have cared for mine properly. I have supple leather with 33,000 miles and they look new. Before I posted, I went out and looked at my seats again just to make sure I was thinking straight before I posted. I respect everyones opinion but, some post here have made supple leather sound like they are straight out of a 1970's Cadillac . They aren't that poofy looking imho. They do have a little pleating to them but are still pretty firm. Threre are two things I like about them. They don't have that split seam down the middle of the seat cushion and they are more comfortable than the standard seats and really have the same support under hard driving. I bought my car previously owned and it wasn't a deal breaker for me. Don't get me wrong, I would like to have the sports seats but, it just didn't work out that way. I do track my car and have thought about some other seat options and may change them in the future seeing that I'm becoming track addicted

POST 31Original post

Supple was very popular in 996 turbos and C4S's. When I was shopping for a TT a while back, I would always crings right before opening up interior shots because so many of them had the supple. Always been a mystery to me why some people like it but to each his own. Kind of like wood in a P car.
