Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

My wife and I decided that we needed a different exhaust system on the Cayman so it would sound more like what we think a Porsche should sound like. We were looking for a throaty growl. We looked at all of the after market systems and then found that Porsche would make available the Sport Exhaust System for Boxster and Cayman in April 07. We ordered that system from our Dealer. The system has flaps in the mufflers (actually in a bypass pipe) thats activated from the DME control unit (if you have Sport Chrono ) or from a dash mounted switch if you don't. The flaps allow you to switch from "normal" sound to "sport" sound. The switch and wiring harness does not come with the exhaust system. It has to be ordered separately. We didn't know this so it was not ordered. The flaps are normally open (in sport mode) and close when a vacuum is applied via the switch. We decided to install the exhaust and not hook up the vacuum lines or order the switch. Good decision. The sound is just what we were looking for. When driving with steady pedal pressure you can't hear the exhaust...even with both windows down. Depress the pedal slightly and you can hear a slight purring sound from the back. Romp down on it and you get the nice, throaty growl that we were looking for. It gives off a nice rumble at idle (if you're standing behind it). BTW, according to the service bulletin, "Engine power and exhaust behavior of the vehicle are not affected." The Sport Exhaust can be ordered on new cars by requesting optional equipment "XLF".

Question for you, if you don't mind me asking. What did it cost you? As an option I know it costs $2,100. For me, if I'm going to spend that I might like a Milltek or AWE that does add a few ponies.

POST 3Original post

Yes why pay when it won't add ponies? GB got it right. Go get a Milltek or AWE. For the same money you get more kick and sound to boot!

POST 4Original post

lfowler, did you notice any difference on the Butt dyno? Has anyone bothered dyno-ing this unit? Could it be possible that Porsche has to say this for, 1) legal/liability reasons, 2) marketing reasons (vs 911 power, etc.)? I'd like an AWE Tuning Exhaust but my state (Florida) has an "Altered Exhaust" law that prohibits modified or non-OEM exhausts. It is applied inconsistently but I know of several people who have been cited for this. A Porsche PSE exhaust would comply with the law and turn those smug cops back towards their police cars. I know Suneet has an AWE and is in Florida. Perhaps he'll weigh in on this as well.

POST 5Original post

You could have got that sound for free. check out the article section: http://www.planet-9.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=104&cat=4

POST 6Original post

Silversled, I didn't notice any difference in performance. But then I wasn't expecting any. As I said in my intro, I was looking for sound, not performance. I also had the factory tips installed. Looks awesome, sounds even more awesome. Not for everyone obviously but we're satisfied with it. And that's all that counts.

POST 7Original post

we're still wondering what it cost, and who you ordered it from. my dealer is still saying it doesn't exist.

POST 8Original post

$2100 on Porsche 's website at http://www.porsche.com/usa/ Some dealers make you wonder.

POST 9Original post

PSE exhausts never make any "more" power on either the 996s or 997s that they've been available on in the past. For some people it's just the right sound though.

POST 10Original post

Thanks for the feedback lfowler. Wishful thinking on my part I guess.

POST 11Original post

It would appear one of our sponsors, Suncoast is selling the PSE for US$1795. It is $100 more if you do not have Sports Chrono . http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/m...reen=PROD&Store_Code=P&Product_Code=98704420000&Category_Code=caymanperformance I think other aftermarket exhausts are a better buy (power gains) but for those wanting this, it is a good price.

POST 12Original post

That's a lot dough for zero more HP. If I'm going to spend that kinda $ on an exhaust system, I want to scare the cat and make babies cry when I start the car!

POST 14Original post

i wanted to retrofit the pse to my 06 cayman s and was told by suncoast it will only work with 07's. he said they looked into it thoroughly and found there are fitment and electrical issues. any thoughts on why?

POST 15Original post

you don;t need to install the electrics, so it would just be a case of making sure it fits PSE has historically been the best sound for the 996/997 with no resonance etc.

POST 16Original post

Just the right sound. Agree, sounds great on a friend's Boxster . Like everything Porsche , it's great, but $$$$. ==RedEye

POST 17Original post

Better sound. No CEL. No blown out cats. Backed and serviced by any Porsche dealer. Call me twice bitten, thrice shy as far as engine mods are concerned.

POST 18Original post

Is it possible the 07 stock has a softer sound than the 06 stock? That would make people want to add the PSE . I was told by my dealer after listening to a sports exhaust on a GT3 that my car (06) had an aggressive exhaust system as it is. Another salesman at an Acura dealer asked me if I had an exhaust mod because the sound was pretty agresssive. I have not listened to PSE on a Cayman yet, but I know the sports exhaust was night and day on the GT3 I saw.
