Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

First the good. Love this car. As in LOVE. But alas on the loooong drive home to PHX from LA my Cayman started to develop a squeak/rattle over the rough roads - sounds like it is coming from behind the dash, near the gauges and mesh looking piece over the panel. I have tried everything and cannot locate it. Anyone have a similar problem? I want to take it in to the dealer, but I fear they will make it worse or just rip apart the car trying to find it only to cause more rattles. It is brand spankin' new, so my guess is that something may be too tight or two wires may be bumping together?? Any thoughts, guesses, comments. Thanks in advance - this board was huge helping in my finally getting my dream car...and the .00146 money factor didn't hurt either!!

You have three choices... live with it, or tear it apart yourself, or take it into a dealer where they have people trained to do this sort of thing. Your fear is mostly unfounded - many, many Porsche dealers actually know what they're doing, and expecting them to "rip apart the car" is not the usual outcome. Have you ever dealt with a Porsche dealer for service before? If not, you might be surprised. Mine is very good at this sort of thing. brad

I've had three new cars in the last 5 years and all three had a rattle. I suggest you sit on it for a while as they sometimes sort them selves out. Give it some time before you take it to the dealer. :2cents:

POST 4Original post

If you want to create a list of Porsche dealers who don't know how to find squeaks or just plain don't care, I'll be happy to start. There's nothing like finding bent-up stray trim clips in your hatch that obviously came off of something …

POST 5Original post

Do you have a chrono? These are notorious to rattle on rough roads.

POST 6Original post

I've had same experience as Capercat. Several new German cars with little rattles, squeeks, and they all sort of worked themselves out over time. Also, I think you will find they come and go based on temperature and humidity.

Many of mine have been (unfortunately) relatively constant. However I have several that arrive with cooler weather, naturally.
