Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, I am looking for my first 911 (I've been over to the newbie board and done that). I wasn't previously considering a Targa, but I have seen a very nice one. I was wondering what your views were on them? Is there any risk in terms of rattle, mechanism etc? Do they effect performance? I think that the more I look at them (996), the more I like them. I just wondered if any of you had any strong opinon either way. Cheers, Sam

POST 2Original post

I love mine. Open roof is great in this weather, and if its cold and bright just leave it shut but open the blind. The hinged opening rear winscreen is a bonus too, it's the best access to get any amount of kit into the back of the car. In fact, as I tell my wife - a four seater hatchback with fold down rear seats - what could be more practical and family oriented than that? I also think the side view is more "classic" than the C2, but I admit I'm biased. I'd say go for it. H

I believe Maxie Islam on here is selling his - it's immaculate and well worth seeing. And he's a good guy.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Kim, Thanks for the info. It is actually Maxi's that I am talking about really. I have seen a few Targas, and his does indeed look like an excellent example. Thanks again Sam

POST 5Original post

I love mine, drove around the lakes last year with my wife, roof fully open, was fantastic !

POST 6Original post

targa love mine,I origionally wanted a conv but the rigmarolle of swopping hard/soft tops didnt appeal esp as I dont have a garage. The top is more like a giant sunroof.Because of the siderails it is just as stiff as the coupe, and as said the hatchback is really useful. Go for it!

POST 7Original post

I have a cab but I think the targa is very underated for some reason. My wife has an SL with the panoramic glass roof in the hard top and the feeling airiness and light inside is a revelation (and that doesnt open!) To me it seems to be the best of both worlds.

I was looking for a Carrera but the best spec and condition car I found was a Targa. We've been together for 2 years now and going strong. Only 200 Targa 996 in the UK, the rarest model and much underrated : )

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
