Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced a brief screeching sound immediately after turning the ignition on. For the last two days when I turn the key there is this high pitched screech for about a half second and then stops, the car starts and runs fine though... Don't think its the starter because it is present before the engagement, it sounds like it is coming from the front area of the car. Could it be the fuel pump on its way out? Anyone know where its located? The car has about 35,000 miles on it. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Sure sounds like a fuel pump to me,....and I believe it is located right next to the fuel tank which of course is towards the front of the car. While not common for one to go out @ 35K, it's not unheard of either. Try and have someone stand outside the car (or vice-versa) when you turn the key to the on position but do not engage the starter. (sounds pretty much what you are doing anyway) and get a good listen. My guess is still the fuel pump as there isn't much more in that area to make such a sound.

POST 3Original post

Going with the fuel pump guess too. Let us know.
