I just noticed that the radio volume knob and tuner knob did not lite up even when the head lights are on...is this normal or what? I was expecting a ring on the knob or something so you can see them at night. Thanks.

There should be light at the knobs. Mine do.

I too expected the white rings on the knobs to light up. They don't. However, there is a small bit of light that is emitted from under the knobs. You can see that if you get out of the seat and stick your head into the center of the car and look at the CDR24 sideways. After a while, you'll learn to find the volume knob in the dark by just knowing where it is relative to the chicklet buttons. If you are on a really dark road, you can see the light coming out from behind the knobs. I agree though, the knobs should have a means to transmit the light to the outer white ring for better visibility.
