Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have been refueling my new C4S when the reserve light illuminates. However, it never takes more than approx. 12 gallons---leaving approx. 4 gallons in the reserve tank, which seems too much. Anyone else have similar readings???

POST 2Original post

Heavy Foot? If your average MPG is low 4 gal might be correct

POST 3Original post

i noticed the same thing with my c4s. gauge shows less than 1/4 tank (reserve light not on) but only takes 7-8 gallons.

POST 4Original post

I have a 2002 C4S and have the same issue. I refuel when the light comes on (usually with 30 or 40 miles left on trip computer). The tank only takes about 12 or 13 gallons each time. According to the C4S sales literature the tank holds 16.9 gallons. My Porsche contact though the reserve was about 2 or 3 gallons so it makes sense. Any one else?

POST 5Original post

Nice to know mine is typical. The very bottom E line is about 15.5 gallons (I have tested this many, many times), half is around 7. Oddly enough, my 300ZX-TT and Alfas in the past were about the same, so I am quite used to this. Better that than the tach reading too low. Perhaps the manufacturers assume sports car drivers push the limits and are trying to do us a favor. Lots of motor, lots of rubber, big brakes, bit of extra fuel just in case...

POST 6Original post

My gauge is pretty much on at the hash marks, using 4, 8 and 12 gallons at the quarter, half and three-quarter marks, but the light comes on after about 13.5 gallons.

POST 7Original post

Had the exact same problem with my gauge. I could never get more than 11.5 gallons in even when it was below empty and the computer said 0 miles to go. Took it to the dealer and had it checked. They told me everything was calibrated properly and was within spec. Funny thing is now it seems to read dead accurate.
