Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looks like a lovely car, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/porsche-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 I wonder what it will eventually fetch?

POST 2Original post

Nice looking motor. Perfect project car at the right dosh.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What's the right money? I guess it depends on what work you can do yourself?

POST 4Original post

What would a rebuild cost? £5-6K? You could end up with a nice car for around £15K with luck...

POST 5Original post

WAY WAT to much money for a leggy targa and its a tip. will be lucky to get 6k for that. could need 8-10k spent at hartech. what if the roof needs doing? that's another 2k.

POST 7Original post

Who knew Elva was eleven in Swedish :dont know: Nice pic with a bag a55 tree in the way  :thumb:

POST 8Original post

Should be £3-4k - a bit more than scrap value. Suspension/rads and who knows what else will most likely need doing!

POST 9Original post

Totally agreed. The roof would probably be even more than that (I know from personal experience). And that's saying nothing about anything else that may need doing. So 9k (current minimum bid) + 10k rebuild + 3k roof (most are on borrowed time by now) + lets say another 2k for rads and suspension, etc. comes to 24 grand. You could get this for that: https://www.pistonheads.com/classif...rsche-996-c4s-manual-only-54000-miles/8909326

POST 10Original post

Feel sorry for the guy selling but £9K is a bit optimistic.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I agree, no way would I consider paying £9k for that but it does make you think.

POST 13Original post

Over on the same marketplace are plenty of better priced examples: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-996-911-Carrera-2-3-6/323392109975 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-[phone removed]-silver-Carrera-4/232890176963 This guy has a sad story but so do plenty of Nigerian princes. He's also taking a chance on the pricing by jacking it up after a few days!

POST 14Original post

I paid £9,500 for a 996 on just over 61,000 miles, with a functional engine. Can't help but think that this needs to be a little cheaper to represent value.

POST 15Original post

Is his story really so sad?! He has been driving around in a Porsche, and now it is broken, too expensive to fix and is trying to rip someone else off with his price and offload the problem. I was unaware the Targa roof has a sell by date, and is so expensive to fix. Glad I don't have one, and if this is the case, the car is now well and truly a write-off. If I owned this car, and someone offered me £2k, I would bite their hand off.
