Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My '99 996 C4 very occasionally produces a surge of revs just after starting the engine. It's not that significant, but is this normal? Have others experienced the same? However, I don't experience the rough idle that has been discussed recently - well, maybe twice in the last 4 months.

POST 2Original post

That's normal. Wouldn't worry about it, unless it's surging up and down like a yo-yo .

POST 3Original post

My engine does this as well. Almost every time I start it. Huge surge of revs, then right to idle. LOUD because the oil has not started moving yet. Then the pressure goes up. It only does this when cold or first start of the day. When warm it is quiet and does not surge. Destined for engine failure??

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the prompt responses. No there's no yo-yoing of the revs, just the initial surge and then it settles down to a normal idle speed. You've put my mind at ease now!

POST 5Original post

Nedd to check if that happens on my car as I enjoy the sound of my exhaust at startup. I think it's not something to worry about if it doesn't do that when it's warmed up. Regards. Mike
