I changed the oil in my Cayman today and noticed a threaded hole near the exhaust with nothing connected. Also the the discoloration (oil?) on the under surface of whatever that part is. Am I missing something that has vibrated out of that threaded hole or does everyone else have this. Anyone working under their car, please take a look so that I can compare. TIA

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'll look the next time I'm underneath mine, but I'd guess that it is an extra threaded hole for something your car is not equipped with. And the discoloration looks like the anti-corrosion stuff they spray on the engine at the factory, which is sort of baked on. I could be wrong on both counts, but that's my initial impression. Most all vehicles have extra fittings, threaded holes, etc. that are for equipment in other markets or with other options besides the ones on any particular car.
Thx...still let me know what you see!
Just raise mine up on the lift, it has that threaded hole too, so no worries.
Mitch48 Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post!:thanks: Did you happen to notice if you had the same discoloration as I do below the threaded hole? Thx again:cheers:
I am pretty sure that is Cosmoline applied at the factory. All Caymans have it to some degree.
I didn't have any, but my whole engine has been pressure washed underneath, no cosmoline on any surfaces except a few remote nooks and crannies. I wouldn't worry about it.
