Hello, I recently purchased a 2001 Boxster with 55K miles. When I start the engine hot or cold there is a ticking noise that last for about 10 seconds. It seems like it could be coming from the drivers side of the engine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Scot in Alabama

Sounds like it might be lifters.
Mechanical or electronic noise?
Both my old Boxster and my Cayman did this occasionally. It only lasts for about 10 seconds or so.
I would have suggested that too!
Mine does the same thing at Start. Then once it has warmed up it goes away.
My 2007 Boxster S has done this since new, it stops ticking once it warms up.
Mine makes a sewing machine sound --- seems a little louder but not sure. I think I've noticed this warm or not. All else being equal -- engine feels and sounds smooth. m
If the ticking does not go away quickly when warm this may be the beginning of a failure path for the Variocam hydraulic solenoid/actuator. It intially starts ticking and sounds just like a sticking injector or lifter and progresses to the point where the engine sounds like it is coming apart in certain load/rpm bands. The operation can be tested using the PIWIS system (and possibly the durametric tool IIRC) by disabling the actuator and determining if the noise went away. Cheers,
Is this the ticking that is under discussion? Mine goes away after a few minutes...
Based on the vid and my poor iPhone speaker it doesn't sound good. The warm up tick associated with hydraulic lifters is much more subtle than that and should go away after 10 seconds or so.
