Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hey folks! Noobs on posting and just want to ask questions, and get advice from members that know how solve my intended mods to my ride. I have a stock 2008 Porsche Boxster S that I want to do some modifications. I want to know which things to do first. The list below is the way I've researched doing the mods in order. I'm also thinking lowering it by a bit that will not compromise the ride. I currently have a K&N filter in it, too. 1. Borla #12653 catback exhaust 2. 987.1 Boxster S (3.4L) IPD "Competition" Plenum 3. 997 GT3 82mm Porsche Throttle Body 4. Softronic ECU flash Any comment, concern or advice will be very much appreciated.

It's a good combo. I have a similar, if not identical, set up. The Borla mufflers are reasonable for street use. I get some drone under 2500 rpms, and their sound is okay, not very Porsche -like. But over 4K rpms, the roar is amazing! Still quiet enough for tracks with a 96db noise limit. Here's the only real catch to the upgrades you've picked: You need to basically have all of them with the programming to get the really noticeable gains. My opinion, save up your pennies and see if you can get a discount for buying everything all at once. Other side note: As you make the engine more free flowing with matching programming, you will move your peak torque and horsepower up the rev range. This will make your car feel a little sluggish in the lower rpms. If you're street driving most of the time, you'll miss that nice punchiness of the factory set up. If you are tracking the car then totally get the parts. Cheers!

Thanks a bunch! I will definitely keep that in mind since that I don't track this ride. I really appreciate your comment

POST 4Original post

I think you have the sequence right. Get the exhaust first and make sure you can live with the sound/drone before investing in plenum, TB and flash.

POST 6Original post

More thoughts... If you're keeping the car as a daily driver or for weekend road trips and such, the exhaust and a nice intake will be a nice addition. The car's ECU will adapt nicely. (Then I'd skip the plenum and programming. They do great things above 5K rpms, but for street cars, that means winding out the engine to get the punch you're looking for - not always the wisest option on public roads.) After that, I'd start looking at some weight reduction (exhaust is good for that, too), light weight wheels, seats and battery will also make the car more nimble, a little quicker off the line and more aggressive in the lower rpms - which you'll like more on real roads. Or... (and I won't say this very often)... Say **** it all to the little pieces and put in a turbo kit. You'll have more fun with that than all the rest combined.

Thanks a bunch! Do you have a turbo recommendation by any chance?
