Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hey Gang, I purchased a 2008 Cayman last summer with 2.5k miles on it. I currently have 7k on it and recently noticed a fan noise that was not present for the first 6 months that I owned the vehicle. The noise is present at intermittent times, mostly well after the vehicle has warmed up. My temp gauge readings are level and its not overheating. I live in Portland, OR. so I am suspect as to why the fan would is kicking on in the winter months as opposed to summer. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

POST 2Original post

Can you tell if it is the engine compartment cooling fan (right side intake) or one of the front radiator fans? Sounds like it might be a thermostat problem - IIRC, there have been one or 2 similar reported in the past. I think you will probably have to take it in to the dealer to get it looked at.
