Thanks for everyone's help. I spoke w/ my salesman today, and the order I placed last month is currently in. I should receive "confirmation" in February.
Anyhow, I was looking over a post a few weeks ago that stated less than 5% of 996s are ordered in Basalt Black instead of Jet Black. Is there any reason why Basalt Black is so unpopular/rare? Is there anything I should be aware of?

Maybe because Basalt Black is an expensive option? I don't know. Wanted Polar Silver for my 02 Cab but not for 3K. Settled on AS for $800.

I was going to buy a Basalt black C2 but discovered that it was "mistakenly" ordered with metropolitan blue inside so I got the targa instead. I really liked basalt black and the C2 really looked good in that color so don't worry if you haven't seen it yet on any car and just go for it
Basalt black looks washed out in the daylight. If black is your preference then nothing looks as shape and crisp as jet black. And I believe that is what your statistic is reflecting in the general populations view. But hey, all colors look great when kept really clean and get a professional mirrored finished wax job once a quarter.
