Hi guys~ Recently I am considering swap my engine. Of course X51 which is on 997 Carrera S is the best way to go. But during my research I found 2 kind of engines. Thay both claim its X51. But obviously they are different. At least they look different. Can someone explain what are these 2 motors and whats the different? Thanks,
The one on the left is a 3.8L motor found in the 997S by default, the one on the right is a 3.8L X51 which is OPTIONAL in the 997S.
Thanks, but I still don't understand. Is that earlier and later difference? Do they performance the same horsepower?
parapa1524 - Wow thanks for those pics! I've never seen the engine. Kinda puts things in perspective when you "see" what the heck your sitting in front of. Pretty cool..
Neither one of these pictures shows what our 2.7L or 3.4L engines look like. The first one is a 3.8L engine producing 355HP and the second one is the X51 3.8L that produces 381HP. If you look in some of the articles that K-Man S has added to the Articles section you can see many pictures of what you're sitting in front of.

If I am not mistaken, the oil and water filler points don't quite line up the same and some work is required to mate them up. Anyone know?
