Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Has anyone had any experience sound deadening the road noise. I want to hear the engine more and the tires less??

POST 2Original post

How many miles on the tires? Maybe just add a couple of PSI over spec. I don't have enough miles on my CS [3500] to notice any tire noise. My '02 Audi TT was really bad as the tires got more miles on them. Just some thoughts.

I've heard from many who have the OEM Continentals on their cars that they seem to produce less road noise than the Michelins and Bridgestones... if your car doesn't have them, you might want to switch when the ones you have wear out... but you also have to understand that the tires are wide, sticky, low-profile, stiff-sidewalled tires, and they will pick up more road noise than you're probably used to, especially if you came to the Cayman from a nice, quiet sedan of some sort. There are also no full-fender liners on the cars to deaden the sound either - this is done on purpose, and goes back to Porsche's racing heritage. When you're racing, and off in the marbles, you hear it instantly inside the car as a warning that you're not in the right place on the track. Just one of those Porsche things... brad

Beez, That's really cool info. I drive a variety of cars regularly, the CayS, an s4avant and an impreza. The Cayman is actually very well insulated against most noise (in fact the wind isolation is as good as the audi which is much heavier and has framed doors). The engine sound (I won't call it noise) is obviously intentional so I kept wondering why the fenders sounded so tinny/thin (like you can hear water drops, little gravel bits etc). Now it all makes sense. Thanks for the explanation as that seemed intentional.
