I orderd a Speedart rear wing today. My CS is basalt black.I was thinking of having the main part of the wing painted basalt black and the tips red to match the my brake's. Will that look tacky?

I vote for all black.
Why don't you Photoshop it and see how it looks? chaseman
Good Idea chaseman, But my computer skills are limited to loging into this forum and looking up race results.
Steve, it seems over the top to me. Function over form never hurts as a motto when dealing with Porsches.
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". What do you think of this combination?
in order to be responsive & answer the original question...Yes.
Amen. chaseman
Ok I get it. All Basalt Black it will be.
Be different - go for the red tips! I just got a Techart wing (the low one) and I have a GT Silver CS - I'm thinking of black wheels, black spears, black side louvers and both wings in black. If I wanted to conform I'd buy a Camry!
Red would look goofy. Keep it black.
I think most of you guy are right. As Santa Fe said a little over the top. That being said is it any tacker then yellow with a black strip, white with a red side name strip on the side, orange with black rs and black strip, red with black side vents.black with red striped wheels ect ?.
Well, probably not, but it is like being the skinniest person in a room full of fat people...it does not mean you are skinny. It all depends on what look you are seeking. It you are trying to make the car look like a race car, then go for it, but then you better track it or you are just a poser. If you are trying to stand out...then this should certainly work. If you must have the wing, then my preference (but, it is not my car) would be to go all black. Personally, I would never add a wing for cosmetic reasons, so yes I think it is tacky.
You bring up a good point Krokodil. I have only tracked my car one time and it seems to me the car understeers. So to me the last thing it needs is more rear downforce. I bought my car as a track toy and that is what I hope to do quite often. I am more then likely hurting the performance with the wing. It's just when you look at all thoes GT3, TT, Cup car's at the track with thoes big wings on the back they look so dam good. By the way you guys were much kinder then my wife was when I came up with the red Idea
I think you're giving in way to easy to the conformists! As for posers, I could never quite figure out what everyone has against them - somebody shows some individuality and everyone else has to pipe in about how they don't like it or if they aren't racing they shouldn't look like a racer. Selective logic at it's best. If it was all about common sense there sure wouldn't be a Cayman in the first place! Let the old fogey's stick with their beige's, browns and blacks! Kroc has full leather for instance - ever seen a race car with full leather?
gtscayman I see that you ride motorcycles. It is kind of strange how with bikes individuality is encouraged but with some cars it is not. Last year when I bought my wife her BMW 550! she wanted the factory rear spoiler, I asked on A BMW forum what they Thought about adding the spoiler. You would of thought I was the Anti Christ for thinking of doing such a thing. We orderd the car with the spoiler. When it came in it sat on the showroom for 6 day's before we could pick it up. The dealership sold 4 cars with that spoiler on them that week, Now they stock it and always have a car on the showroom with one.
gtscayman, Help me understand your statement. Yes, my car has full leather, and yes racecars do not typically have leather, but I am not claiming to have a race car nor am I claiming to be a racer. So, I do not get your assault. Individuality is good, misrepresentation is not. Florida Cayman asked our opinion and I gave it to him. If you re-read my post I think you will see that I suggest that if he desires to stand out then go for it. I "piped up" because he asked us to. He did not say "here is my new wing", he asked "do you think this is tacky" Yes, I am old (somewhat) and I do not much like beige. For someone attacking folks for being judgmental you sure were quick to judge.
Look at Speedart's web site. They have an Articsilver Cayman with green tips, calipers, front spoiler. I think it looks cools. Others probably think it looks horrible. Go with what you like, it's your car. Don't be a lemming!
UPDATE. I recived my rear wing today I sat it on the car unpainted. My wife informed me no matter what color I paint it it will be tacky.
So when does it go back?
don't worry about what anyone else thinks....if you like, do it!
This applies to anyone else but the spouse.
I will still get it painted just to see how it lookes. If I don't like I will sell It. I never send anything back based on my bad decision
Yes - don't send it back, send it to me (unpainted) I will gladly test it for tackiness with my wife, both painted and unpainted, and provide feed-back to the Cayman Club Forum. MISpuds
