POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am looking at a new Blk/Blk '02 C2 Coupe with limited options (Technic pkg, 18" wheels, floor mats). I am down to $65,195 or 3K over invoice [not sticker, sorry] and cant get them to budge any lower. It will be a daily driver and I plan on keeping the car awhile. Are there any issues or concerns that i should be aware of related to getting a low optioned 996? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

As long as you order the 18's then you'll be ok. The 996 seems too heavy looking with 17's

POST 3Original post

Many threads and comments on this list involve MSRP or less. How come a Pcar dealer is still trying to sell an 02 above sticker? Just curious.

POST 4Original post

First, don't even think about a black car for use as a daily driver. Second, don't even consider sticker price acceptable for a car that is basically a year old when you drive it away--996 values are way down.

POST 5Original post

Do you mean $3K over invoice? At $65K, that sounds about right. My guess is your car has an MSPP somewhere in the low/mid seventies right? Sounds like a pretty good deal. I just bought a new 03 Coupe which was heavily optioned (MSPP was about $85K) and I was only able to get about $3.5K off (in Boston, MA). If you like the color etc. I'd say you're getting a pretty good deal. You can always add a few goodies afterwards (especially considering what you are saving) Good luck! AJ A

POST 6Original post

Maybe I am confused. Do you mean 3k over invoice. According to the Porsche price list on this sight base msrp for a C2 is $67900, plus the options you mentioned. I don't think you'd be concidering paying over sticker nor would a dealer ask for it on a base 911 with the '03s coming out. I am not going to say how much I got off sticker on my car but most good local dealers will discount at this time of year. Remember, though, dealers do need to make revenue( I won't say markup is profit since dealers have a lot of expenses besides the invoice cost of the car)in order to service their generally demanding clientel. What do you guys think?

POST 7Original post

i think $3K over invoice is a very good deal for an 02, and a low optioned car will hold its value better in percentage terms anyway.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

sorry, i did mean to say over invoice, not sticker, in my original post I am now at 2500 over but let me tell you this is really painful.

POST 9Original post

C'mon Mark, pull the trigger. It won't hurt a bit.

POST 10Original post

Besides, you may not want to grind the dealership to much in case you need some help down the road. Maybe I should say that I am a little biased since I am a car dealer. I love this community and enjoy hearing info from car enthusiests and consumers. It is very interesting to hear what people think about buying and owning the great artworks we call cars. I am a car nut and just bought my first Porsche. I am very grateful to forums like this and the people who participate for I have learned a great amount from them. I would like to offer my knowledge in the one area I feel I am somewhat of an expert on and that is car dealerships. If anyone would like inside info I would be happy to try to accomodate. By-the-way, I love my new car. I is an awesome machine.

POST 11Original post

mark if you can live with the color-buy it! most of the options are unnecessary anyway and certainly add nothing to resale

POST 12Original post

and you can add alomst anything afterwards for typically the same price or less

POST 13Original post

A low option car is a lighter car too! Go for it.

POST 14Original post

it sounds like a great deal. The only option that is missing that you CAN'T add is PSM. Think about that seriously. I decided I had to have it and turned down a few great deals because of it. As an fyi, a friend went to road Atlanta to do the Porsche experience thing. When he got back I asked how it went. Without knowing my opinion on PSM his only comment to me was, "whatever you do, get PSM". That pretty much was all I needed.

POST 15Original post

Hey Skymast...I've got to put my .02 back in. Can't comment on need for PSM (I have it), but your use of the car would govern whether or not you should take it or walk. Regarding the color. Personally, I haven't lived with cars very long with colors that I didn't like, unless they were sort of unique. I had a dark blue (almost black) 993CS with aerokit, lowered, etc. I really didn't like the color and finally sold it. I guess my point is..if you don't like the color black now, no matter how good a deal you make, you still won't "like" the color. Good Luck.

POST 16Original post

What's wrong with Black??? I love black....more work but nothing looks better. IMHO

POST 17Original post

Sounds like a great deal!! Options are just right. OEM options added after delivery are a tad more expensive than if added from the factory, since there is usually some credit given for the basic part that the option is replacing. The only exception would be aftermarket non-OEM options. My only concern is PSM. After several DE's, I am a true advocate. It has rarely gone on for me. It serves both as a signal that I have overdriven the car and to not do it again or do it better, as well as a safety net. I believe it makes me a better driver. I don't think it is an issue if you plan to never track the car. It is also not an issue if you are already an expert Porsche track driver.

POST 18Original post

Dacomovi...nothing is wrong with black per se. My point was that if he didn't really like the color and bought the car for the deal, then he probably wouldn't like the color later. That's all..

POST 19Original post

[quote] i think $3K over invoice is a very good deal for an 02, and a low optioned car will hold its value better in percentage terms anyway.

Well said. Go for it. The only one other point I would note is that 03's have just (in the last three weeks or so) started to trickle into dealerships. Any additional time that you can stall (note: does not factor in the excitement you must feel at the prospect of buying a Porsche) may allow you negotiate an even better price. But if you are at about $2,500 above invoice, I don't there is much more room to go, so you might as well pull the trigger. Let us know how everything turns out. Regards.

Whatever happened to learning how to drive a car, vs a computer masking serious overdriving errors, listen to your instructor

[quote]Originally posted by RS.: Whatever happened to learning how to drive a car, vs a computer masking serious overdriving errors, listen to your instructor

Heh-heh-heh, if this is a response to my post regarding PSM, then whatever happened to reading posts well? PSM (computer) is a safety feature. It should NEVER go on, but in the rare occasions that you DO need it, it is good to have. Both to save you, as well as let you know what not to do again or what to do better. Much like having a lifeguard in a body of water. You can swim, and swim very well and very fast and very far and never need the lifeguard. The one time you MAY need the lifeguard is the one time they are good to have around. And I think I swim better and have more fun knowing they are around. BTW, I was a varsity swimmer. FWIW, my first DE instructor called me a "natural". You can jus call me Juan Fangio .

If you dont buy it, please let me know the dealer or if you can point me to a great deal on a similar car, let me know. Thanks, Mark
