The insulated cover on the fuel rail on 944 is it decorative or functional? Not sure what the 924 or 968 has/had. A discussion on a 944 fb page is saying decorative by consensus. I didn’t think Porsche in the 1980s was into decor. Opinions are easy but anyone know the truth?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Brian, For it to be effective wouldn't it have to fully enclose the fuel rail? My votes for "decorative" to match the shape of the cam cover and intake manifold.
The truth should be known, would it be rude to call out to our local guru? @Buchanan Automotive
It’s functional even if only by a fleas nat of nothing a proper heat wrap would be much better. Heat pickup by the fuel rail or fuel lines or anything else including heat generated by the fuel pump is a major issue and fuel temperatures of over 50C are very problematic. The lower the tank gets the bigger the problem as less fuel to absorb the heat. Moral of the story is don’t expect to climb a mountain on a hot day with not much fuel in the tank. It will get hot and boil in the tank at the fuel pump inlet at the lower atomespheric pressure.
We own a small company called Kool Wrap and specialise in heat protection products. We produce 4 different kinds of heat sleeves, all ideal for lines such as fuel, brakes, air con, heater hoses, oil lines etc. Sorry about the lame plug. www.koolwrap.com.au. Happy to give Porsche owners discount :)
Its just decoration
@Buchanan Automotive thank you
I always thought it was to quieten down those noisy batch firing injectors
