Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi, Now that we have some cars in private hands, I wouldlike torequest some owners provide some real-life measurements. I'm particularly interested in the shifter throw distances (horizontal travel distances between gears). If owners with OEM shifter and factory short shifters can measure/provide this information, it'll help us quantify the effcet sof a short shifter. The other measurement I like to see is the shift knob height. Please measure the top of shift knob from the top of center counsel. That will tell us if the short shifter is indeed 'shorter'. Personally, I like my shift knob low, and the throw distance short. Hopefully some members can supply the measurements to help us visualize the differences between OEM and factory sports/short shifter. Thanks. CP

My experience has been only with the factory shifter in the car upon delivery on Friday. When I get the car later today I should be able to see if there is any difference as the sport shifter is being installed today.

Some actual measurement figures would be great. Discriptions like 'throw is shorter', 'sinck, snick', 'engagement is precise' (often posted in SSK threads) do not convey much. Thanks. CP

The Tequipment catalog for the Cayman that I picked up from the dealer today promises a 20% reduction in shifting distance.

POST 5Original post

CP ; picked up the car on Wednesday with the sport shifter installed. Did not take measurements of the stock shifter, but the Sport Shift DEFINITELY makes the throws noticeably shorter. With the quick measurements I made, from the neutral position it is approx. 3/4' to 1st. 1.5' into 2nd, with it approx. 3/4' over to the 1-2 gate. These seem to be the same for each gear set. I can tell you to DEFINITELY get it if you want them shorter. Although I have seen the B&M kit is more reasonably priced than the option from Porsche . After talking with the mechanic who installed mine, I am glad that they did it, as you have to take out the entire center console. That did not appear to be too easy from the B&M website where I read the directions for the Boxster installation.

Thanks for the info. I will order with the factory SSK. CP
