His father had a 1950s Porsche 356 that Canyon inherited after his father passed away. The unveiling of Porsche’s newest car, the Cayman, marks the first time in his life that Canyon has even considered purchasing another car. “I’ve waited long enough,” he said. “When I heard about this new model, I thought, ‘This is it, I’m really going to buy one.’” Canyon was just one of many Porsche connoisseurs in attendance Thursday night for Bob Moore’s unveiling of the new Cayman. The unveiling marked a milestone for Porsche, a company that hasn’t released a new model of car for some time. “Porsche had to have a big premiere for this car,” said Dave Dougrey, Bob Moore Porsche sales associate. “This is Porsche’s first new model coupe since 1997.” Porsche’s new Cayman marks the introduction of the first mid-engine car offered under $100,000, Dougrey said. “Before, if you wanted to purchase a mid-engine car, you would have to get a Ferrari, Lambourghini or Lotus, which will run you around $100,000 plus,” Dougrey said. “The Cayman doesn’t even compare, offered beginning in the $58,000 range.” The Porsche is named after the alligator of the same name, Bob Moore Porsche general manager Sonny Rose said. The Chinese species of alligator, the Cayman is smaller than the American, yet still closely related. “Its noted for it’s power and high-speed agility,” he said. As Oklahoma City’s only Porsche dealer, the Cayman is exclusive to Edmond with Bob Moore being the only dealership within 100 miles to acquire the new car.
