Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys. The sat nav on my car is pretty outdated compared with the models out today. It doesn't even take post codes...just street names. I was just wondering if there are updated map discs out there I can get to improve the functionality. My current discs state "compatible only with PCM software version 3.0 or higher". appreciate any info or suggestions. Thanks

POST 2Original post

There are loads of posts about updating the sat nav. Nothing can be done about the PCM but you can buy a far superior aftermarket unit. I went for a double din touchscreen Kenwood with built in Garmin, BT, iPod, tv, etc... Less than 1000 notes installed. You could get it for half that if you install it yourself and don't bother with any of the accessories. Take a look at some audio websites or visit a specialist audio shop. All installations are reversable too when it comes time to sell it. My unit has been used in my last two cars now.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Sy. I'll check out some of the audio sites. I was trying to avoid spending another wad on accessories if poss. just wanted to try and update maps if poss. appreciate your input :thumb:

POST 4Original post

Porsche stopped investing in the PCM platform for the 996 a while ago. Best option is to upgrade.

POST 5Original post

They are still updating the map disks though. The latest is 08.2009, which was released recently. No more functionality, just more up to date maps and more points of interest. No postcode search though AFAIK. They appear to be updating them every two years, in line with other PCM systems.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Richard, Any info on where I can get the updated maps( discs) from? appreciate any info. Thanks!

POST 7Original post

You would expect you local Porsche dealer could help you part with a rediculous sum of money for a disk. Or maybe someone on here can share thier disk with you? (not sure if it works like that though?)
