Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I want to have my upper and lower center consoles painted in my 02 996.I was told that the 02's have a rubberized finsh that cannot be painted.I would have to purchase an earlier(99-01)plastic console, lower only because the upper is a different design, and have that preped and painted.I can't imagine why the "new" finish cannot be sanded and preped for paint too.Has anyone had any luck with this new finsih?

POST 2Original post

Not sure on cost, but I'd say you could probably paint either the new ones or the old ones. If you can find a high quality body shop in your area who has worked with this before, talk with the owner and see what he says. In fact, if it were me, I'd opt to purchase a separate piece anyway, just in case I decided to revert back to the original later. Can't be that expensive (not the center console between the seats - the surround of the middle area below the dash, right?).

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
