Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I expect this has been covered before, but I cannot find it. I have owned an 03, 996 turbo from new and it has just short of 20k on it. It is now on its THIRD set of radiators and second set of aircon condensers. The guy at AFN suggested that someone sells a black mesh kit that fits behind the existing grills to minimise leaves and debris getting onto the radiators, which should hopefully extend their life (not hard!). Does anyone know of such a kit ?, nothing chrome/stainless please! Thanks Chris

POST 2Original post

I believe a few companies sell them. Design911 had some. Other people like myself just made them from a black mesh sold by Halfords. A little more work involved but a piece of pee and cheap to boot. can't tell the difference and most certainly worth doing. Mine have saved the rads a couple of times now!! Jim

POST 3Original post

Previous owner fitted it to my car ... think this is the one http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...uctId_231521_langId_-1_categoryId_165675#dtab

POST 4Original post

as suggested sheet of black mesh will suffice but i have fitted it to 3 996tt so far and a bit of a pig to get it right but worth it in the end for the owners...

POST 5Original post

I too invisage doing this in the not too distant future and bought the last sheet in halfords this weekend. Now looking at the area to cover,it does not seem enough. Will one sheet do or are two required?I dont want to start the job and not finish in one go! TIA

POST 6Original post

think you'll need 2 sheets, got ours of ebay in packs of 3...

POST 7Original post

No - you won't quite get the 3 pieces out of one sheet of the Ripspeed Mesh on a Turbo/C4S. You can squeeze it out of one sheet on a C2/4 with some careful cutting though.

POST 9Original post

Dont suppose anyone has a picture, pdf or a link, to the locations of the bolts that hold the bumpers on do they? Thanks

POST 10Original post

There is a company called Zunsport who make grills in silver and black.

POST 11Original post

This any good? http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/...t=996 Turbo Front Bumper Removal - DIY w/pics Here's mine done by Sports and Classic when I had 3 rads and a condensor replaced.

POST 12Original post

Pardon my ignorance but im assuming that all bumpers have the same fixing locations? Is it absolutely necessary to take the wheel arch liner off as ill be doing this in the 'street'/drive and inly have a trolley jack to hand Thanks

POST 13Original post

Just take out two or three expanding plastic pop rivets holding the wheel arch (closest bumper) - you may wish to turn the steering for ease of access. Then you can get a screwdriver in to unbolt the bumper.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thought I'd post a picture of the finished job. Reckon this £50 on mesh and an afternoon fiddling with the bumper and grilles, will be a good investment. I'm fed up of spending £2,000 a throw on new radiators.
