Guys I've just discovered my car doesnt have electric folding mirrors! What was Porsche thinking...NOT putting this feature in! Is it easy and cost effective to retro-fit this?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This was explained to me once that the rear quarter actually sticks out further than the wing mirror so if someone is going to hit the mirror they're also going to hit the rear quarters hence no electric folding??? :dont know:
911's are all about a weight saving culture......why add weight when there is no need to do so? Even some GT's have stickers for front bonnet badges. I just roll my mirror(s) in if/when needed.......easy. Retro fit?.....err I don't think so.
Probably keeping the weight down as much as possible? Don't forget an electric motor weighs almost 1kg and the effective weight increases when you are cornering. If you look around your car closely, ask why are your seats so thin compared to mass produced cars? Why are 911s equipped relatively sparsely against the competition? Why are doors and bonnet cover now made of aluminium instead of steel? Why are the front & rear PUs made of plastic? I could extend my examples to the wheels as well; a front 18" Carrera II wheel - offered as an option on the 996 facelift cars - weighs 9.5kg, a rear one weighs 10.5kg - very light compared to mass manufactured wheels of the same size. Moreover, these wheels are not cast but more likely forged all adding to lower unsprung weights compared to the main stream. If you wanted a car with all the gizmos, there are penty of others to choose from. ~ Maxie
OK OK I'm with you now!! 997s have electric folding mirrors tho dont they??
No. I guess 911s are not for you...... ~ Maxie :?:
Yes but only if you plug yourself in to the mains and move them by hand.... then their electric.. :?:
No, and I can't say I miss them - have had them on a couple of cars and see them as a bit of a gimmick more than truly useful.........only folded them in a handful of times.....
Im not giving up an AMAZING piece of kit just over electric folding mirrors!! 911s are TOTALLy for me!! But i still think 1kg either side of a car that has an IMMENSE amount of power wouldnt make a huge difference...lets be honest now!
just a guess here Maxie but the PU's are made of plastic because thats what PU( P oly U rethane) stands for :floor: :floor: :floor:
This is only a major concern to me due to our car park at work. The spaces were outlined by someone that owns a nissan MICRA!! Sometimes I have to get into my car from the passenger side!! And a lot of the ppl at work are useless at parking, so the extra inch or so gained from folding your mirrors is GOD SEND!
Thats Nice they have named them after what they are made from :?:
OK Rodders, I guess I asked for that one.... ~ Maxie
You're a brave man to take a Turbo into a car parking space that was, as you say, outlined by someone who drives a Micra (I'm assuming they're small parking spaces). I would be scared of people opening their doors onto my car and leaving 'supermarket car park' dents all over the bodywork. However I can see your problem; do you have alternative means of transport? Unfortunately the folding mirror system on the 997 retracts the mirrors even less than they do on a 996. ~ Maxie
Unfortunately I can only afford 1 car! I borrow my brothers now and again. A little corolla 1.3.
