Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This is a bit embarassing(having owned a 911 for nearly a year)but which models(996)are wide bodied and which are normal? What is the difference in width and where does the extra width go?I would love to see a photo of the two side by side if any of you guys have one. Cheers thanks

POST 2Original post

Only C4S, Turbo, Turbo S and GT2 have wide-bodies. (996) The narrow-bodies are 1770 mm and the wide-bodies are 1830 mm. So 60 mm wider at the hips (rear haunches/wheel arches). No prefacelift (996.1) were wide-bodies. Yours is a narrow-body. The easy way to tell is the taller, ridged rear lights (if you hadn't already noted the stance or the fact it was a GT2!):

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for that,so thats less than an inch and a half either side,be great if someone can put a photo up of the two.

Allan, you got me curious. Don't have a real side by side photo, but borrowing Carpy's image and adding one of mine from same sort of angle and hopefully similar scaling gives the attached. Not quite a like for like because mine's a Targa, but it shows the differences are actually quite subtle. But the bigger lights are obvious on a side-by-side comparison, and so is the more curvy area in the "hips" just below the quarter light windows. Oh dear, I think I'm developing bottom envy... PS Mine is the grey one in the middle, Carpys is the yellow one on the right, not sure who's the yellow cab on the left is but it needs some work!

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I knew someone on this forum would come up with the goods! The more "horizontal"wheel arches are apparent when the two are lined up together but I would be hard pressed to spot the difference in the street, anyhow they both look gorgeous. Harry dont think im pushing it ,but any chance of a similar rear end of Jo Lo and Kate Moss?

POST 8Original post

Since its you, I'll ask them next time they pop round. :camera:

POST 11Original post

Slightly better comparison (given that they are both yellow and pretty much identical photo angle, sorry I don't have my pic online anywhere so had to stick it on as an attachment).

POST 13Original post

Cheers GT4; for someone who works in IT I sure am lazy / ignorant when it comes to doing pretty much anything on a PC or Mac...

POST 14Original post

a lower angle pic shows the width better i think (sorry not high res ) Rob

Ant, I was compelled to comment as your very action of attaching a file on 911UK means paradoxically that you have now hosted it online!

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
