All suspension and steering components are good, up to 120 kilometres (70 mph) everything is dead steady then at 125k wheel start to shake side to side bad .Once I get to approx 140 kilometers its dead steady again regardless of how fast I go. Would that be balance still bad or bent rim possibly. I have had them balanced (STATIC BALANCED) Thx for any advise. Tires are pretty new and no weird wear patterns and pressures are correct (stock 37 rear 32 front)

POST 2Original post

The first thing to try is a Road Force Balancing. Road Force Balancing equipment actually puts the wheel/tire under weight while balancing. Porsche recommends this method. It's not available everywhere as the equipment is quite expensive. If that doesn't work you'll need to start eliminating things like a bad wheel, tire or alignment or suspension parts. Good luck and keep us posted.

POST 3Original post

Bent rims would show up at all speeds. It is a balance problem.

POST 4Original post

Tire balance problem or semi-stuck caliper can both cause exact those symptoms - steering wheel/shaking/vibration at some range of speeds

POST 5Original post

I had nearly the same steering wheel vibration symptoms. I just had the front wheels road force balanced this morning and it almost completely eliminated the steering wheel vibration. There is still a very slight vibration but the tires are pretty old (2012 Michelin Pilot Super Sports ) and about half worn and have a little bit of uneven wear from a few track days. Also the tech found one wheel to be very slightly bent, but not enough to worry about at this point. Both wheels measured less than 10lbs of road force, so they only required new wheel weights and did not need to be rotated on the wheel. I brought the wheels (OEM 19”) off the car to Discount Tire and it was only $10/wheel. It looks like all their balancing machines are Hunter Road Force balancers. Most cars and even SUVs have 18”+ diameter wheels and low profile tires now, so the Porsche wheels were nothing special to them and gave them no trouble. If there is a Discount Tire near you with good ratings (mine has 4.5 stars on Yelp), then it is well worth a try.

Thx Guys. Great info. I have not made any changes as of yet. I read that the Tires could be flat spotted after 6 months sitting in garage in same spot over winter. I think the vibration is slowly getting better. Going to give it a few more weeks an if not completely gone I will have them road force balanced,I found a shop that that has the system and its pretty reasonable and definitely worth trying if needed. Worth mentioning is when I first purchased my car 6 years ago I did have a bent rim on front driver side. There was no real vibration until approx 60 mph then it would vibrate so bad it would go up thru the seat into my body and numb my back. So based on my experience with a bent rim, it will not always show problems at all speeds. I have since changed that rim.

POST 7Original post

I read recently that if the Tires may be flat spotted .The solution is to increase all tires to max pressure as per tire recommendation and take the car out for a 150 miles ride. Whats your thoughts on that. Max Pressure is probably 20 lbs more or so not sure have not looked yet but is there a possibility that it could give the tire a strange wear pattern possibly in the middle section.Anyone tried this. Its suppose to force the inner metal bands outbthat may have flattened somewhat and remove the flat spot!

POST 8Original post

I’m not a tire expert, but I would never take a tire up to max pressure cold and then take it out for a long drive. I’ve had a blow-out before and I’d like to never repeat the experience.

POST 9Original post

OK, wont try ,u have convinced me otherwise! Im pretty sure I have the dreaded flat spot after the long 6 month sit in the garage without moving car. The good news is its getting better with every time I drive the car so as per some articles ive read ,sometimes after some heat cycles the tires will go round again (but not all the time) I may get lucky this time. I have a second set of rims I got cheap with some worn tires and have decided to just change them over in the fall prior to storage and store the good tires/rims on there sides for the winter months. I thought about raising the car on blocks or jack stands and letting the suspension hang BUT getting conflicting info on that also. Thx for all the feedback, some great info on this Forum!

POST 10Original post

Hey Warren. There are cradle type products on the market that you would drive your car onto, one for each tire, to prevent flat spotting during long term storage. I'd guess they work really well and are affordable but never had the issue. Worth checking and seems a lot easier than swapping tires/wheels for storage. Also, I've read that for long term storage, you can pump the tires up to 50 pounds of pressure but you should definitely reduce that pressure before driving.

FYI, I had my 2 front tires Hunter Road Force Balanced. Unbelievable! Rock solid ,no wiggle or vibration any speed. I wish id done this years ago instead of letting the usual shops just continue to produce the same crap results. After many balances, I actually thought that this was just an inherited trait of the car or the tires on the car and just put up with it. Actually felt nervous going anything over 60 mph due to the vibration and shimmy in steering wheel. Now ive had the car up to 120 mph and its smooth, amazing, would not have believed it. I had to drive 2 hrs to a shop that offered it but worth every penny.
