Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I have had a really annoying rattle in my car for a while. I have finally worked out its the headlining towards the rear centre of the car. If I gently put my hand on it the rattle stops completely. I do not have a sunroof. Any ideas how to stop this? Cheers, Mike.

POST 2Original post

Mine does that too. My daughter located it and kept her hand there for the duration of the last drive, but it would be good to find a more permanent solution. :stay:

POST 3Original post

Very common, it's the metal rod that holds up the headlining. Open your sunroof, does it get a whole lot worse? You need to drop the headliner and reafix and isolate the metal rod. There is a guide somewhere on the internet, have a Google.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Thanks for the replies. Per my original post I don't have a sunroof. I am searching the internet and all I am finding is posts where a sunroof is present. It has however given me some ideas on what could be causing the problem and how to resolve it. Cheers, Mike.

From page 73 of this pdf is the headlining removal from the workshop manual... the problem seems to relate to the metal strut, from what I read on the interweb. This is nothing to do with the sunroof... http://www.911uk.com/docs/911_996_workshopmanual_body_int.pdf source- http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=83491 You have to take the a, b and pillar trim off too apparently. Looking at the pics you might be able to access it from the back, if you remove just the c pillar trim... My concern would be introducing more rattles taking it to bits. Maybe try shoving a bit of folded card in there!
