Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi My passenger side silencer has started rattling, I think it is the baffles, but could be the valve. The rattle almost disappears with the exhaust switched to quiet. Has anybody had one of these silencers opened up and repaired and if so by who, or am I looking at a new silencer? Thanks Neil

POST 2Original post

If it's the baffle plate then yes it can be rewelded outside of the case. You would need to locate the rattler, drill a hole on the crimped section and spot weld through to re stitch the plate to the outer case. If its the valve then your screwed. I have some pictures but i'm dammed if I know how to load them on here. I'm sure GT4 will be along with a masters gallery of a skinned can showiing the baffle positions.

hongkong, depending on what it is I had an interesting chat with Brian of Woodwards Garage near Bristol. He said that he has had several rattly valves on the PSM and hasa found that by adding a spring it stops the vibration and the rattle. Apparently pretty quick and inexpensive fix by an old school specialist. Not sure where you are based but he may be worth a call. Very honest and straightforward. Woodwards 01454 261 067

POST 4Original post

It is i believe quite common for the PSE valves to start rattling once they get of an age. Taht said jesters fix sounds pretty wortwhile. The fact that the rattle all but dissappears when in quiet mode would seem to me to point to the valves.....

Dear all, Thanks for the advice, seems the consensus is that the valve is the problem :nooo: . I am in London and have been in touch with Hayward and Scott so will pop it up there and see what they think in the first instance. Neil
