Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Some of you seem to have trouble with your factory sports exhaust. The huge advantage of this muffler is that rather than making it louder by taking out damping material it has an active bypass valve (similar to the Aston Martin Vanquish)which also can be opened or closed from inside the cabin. Attached you will find an example of a 996 interior. Eagle eyes will spot the two rectangular buttons just underneath the aircon. The first button will constantly open or close the bypass valve. With the valve closed, the exhaust sounds like a standard 996. The other button can be used to "silence" the exhaust between 25 and 45 mph (to comply with German noise regulations, the exhaust needs to be below a certain db-level at that speed). The installation can be done by Porsche at the factory in Stuttgart or at an ordinary Porsche dealer. You can also opt not to have the "stealth-buttons" installed (might save you some $) but I would not recommend it. If you fire up that thing in NY, they can here you in Boston.
