Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi I have a great set of 987 struts that I want to install on a 986..I know the lower hole, where the strut inserts on the front it too small..can 987 wheel carriers be swapped. I am told the rear is the same I don't know if I can machine out the 986 carriers to make the 987 tubes fit

POST 2Original post

There are shims or spacers available. Reach out to some of the bigger name companies. My JRZs on the 996 have a sleeve that makes them fit the 996 upright. I’m sure other companies have similar sleeves. Shawn

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

sveatch..please check you car models...I have a 986(2001) boxster and a set of struts from a 2016 caymen (987) avaiable..

POST 4Original post

Not sure if the 987 carriers easily swap, but I may have time to check it out on a car next week. I think that the VW MK6 struts that Woody used have the same diameter as the 987 struts and he successfully milled it to fit. http://986forum.com/forums/622156-post86.html
