Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi all, I just received my new to me CS. It needs a clutch, not horribly bad but she's on the way out for sure. Any input on single mass flywheels? pros, cons, experience? Same with clutch options. My plans for it are not going to go beyond intake, headers , exhaust , softronic , plenum and throttle body. Or would it be more advisable to stay with the dual mass? Any and all opinions are welcome!! Thanks everyone!

POST 2Original post

The clutch disk does not have springs, so without a dual mass flywheel there is nothing to dampen the changes in torque. I would stick with the OEM flywheel unless you're going full race.

POST 3Original post

I see that there are clutch kits out there that have traditional springs in the hub so that would help. i don't want to ruin the car too much lol. I do about 15 track days a year but I drive on the street daily. So if I retain the dual mass flywheel, can the OEM clutch kit handle the added power of the mods I plan on doing? it's not that much extra power, but I don't really know a lot about these cars.

POST 4Original post

Also, can someone help me turn off the PSM fully? is there some trick to this? do i have to jump up and down and clack my feet or some ****? i went out for a drive and i tried to get sideways and it won't let me. i don't like that. actually, I f'n hate that.

POST 5Original post

I had a single mass flywheel on my turbocharged Subaru for a while. Increased engine vibration was especially noticeable if the engine was just starting to lug because it was time to downshift. I eventually switched back to a dual mass and am fine with that. Works fine for my kind of driving.

POST 6Original post

Your mods will not add that much horsepower, the stock clutch setup will handle it fine. You can turn off PSM with the dash switch, but it will come back on automatically under certain conditions. I believe ABS activation is one of those. The only way you could turn all of that off would be custom programming. I do think if your car is in Sport or Sport+ mode (depends on your options list) and you turn off PSM, you ought to be able to hang the tail out. I'm sure there are others here who can chime in from experience.

POST 7Original post

Stick with the OEM flywheel and upgrade to a Sachs Sport Clutch. It is a reasonable upgrade to maintain good street manners yet is more aggressive than factory.

POST 8Original post

I saw that sport clutch in a vendor somewhere but it wasn't compatible for the .2's only for the .1's. If I can find one that fits the .2 S, I may go that route

POST 9Original post

The clutch may need replacement, but not necessarily the flywheel too. It is an expensive part. It might still be fine.

POST 10Original post

I chose not to risk doing the job twice. While I am still amassing parts, I did find a LUK flywheel for super cheap. Coincides with all the relative part numbers, it's LUK DMF155. For anyone out there, it's about 2/3 the cost of what most sites sell it for. Also did order the SACHS sport clutch kit. Hopefully I should have it in next week some time.
