Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Engine bay fan failure :: i had that message twice in 2 weeks so i decided to take the fan out ,the fan was a little bit stiff to turn ,look like it was seaze, after playing with the fan it spins freely if i put 12v directly to it ,should it spin or the sensor is built in the fan? thanks 4 your help:cheers:

POST 2Original post

If you are attaching power directly to the power lines for the fan it should spin, but there is a thermostat controlled switch for the fan so make sure you aren't attaching power downstream from that, if you have the wires coming directly out of the fan motor, then you should be good.

POST 3Original post

thanks for the info ,i pull out the fan ,i had a fresh R/c car battery pack fully charge ....... nothing wont spin guess its kaput!!! :thanks:

POST 4Original post

I believe the thermostat input is actually into the control module and the module switches the fan on and off when required. Yeah a 12v supply should spin the fan, and no there is no sensor in the fan, so it seems your fan is faulty.

POST 5Original post

Yeah I didn't know exactly where he was attaching, before or after the control module, etc. just wanted to make sure he was attaching to fan power/ground lines only. Sounds like he did and that indeed he has a bad fan.
