Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Odd and intermittent fault with my 4S. When the wipers are switched off to park either manually or by the rain sensor, the wipers sometimes do a little jolt/jump. I'm guessing some relay or switch issue rather than the mechanism or motor as its only when being switched off. Any ideas? Easy fix?

POST 2Original post

To be honest .. i have no idea :dont know: But i hate to leave a question unanswered !! Ive looked at a wiring diagram , posted below and my best guess .. Linkage or wiper motor . The motor has a permanent feed to a contact ring inside the motor .. this is what parks the wipers after its turned off . There are other contact rings but these are not powered in the off state . Either a problem with this ring or a linkage fault .. something tight that is almost jamming it . If there was a problem with the feed to the motor then it would tend to stop at different places across the screen .. not just in the almost park setting .

POST 3Original post

Usually the 1st sign the motor is starting to fail.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks very much for your investigations Demort, much appreciated. Sounds like it might be the motor. Is it a pain to access and have a look at the motor/linkage, see what's going on and replace if necessary?

POST 5Original post

I removed the linkage on my C4 recently. You will see details in my project thread. Not hard, just got to take a few things off to get at it. MC

POST 6Original post

As MC said .. its not hard .. 3 bolts .. couple of bars to remove and its out . Instructions will be in the 996 faq and the workshop manual post .
