Once in a while if i rev/load my tach to 5,000 rpm the temp guage lite starts flashing. What does that mean? I read on the manual suggesting maybe coolant level is low or the internal blower fan is not funtioning efficiently. Is this something to woory about? What shorterm fix I can do to see if it alleviates the problem or should I just have the porsche mechanic check it out. If i turn off the ignition and turn back on it stops flashing. I'm afraid if i load the engine again something major will happen. Ne info would be appreciated. I imagine VIKEN can provide me with some important info since I see his knowledge of porsche cars speaks for itself on this website. Thanks and take care. Mike '99 996 coupe red/black

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Mike, This is a well known problem on the 99's. The problem is with a sensor in the coolant overflow tank and is not serious. The dash light will self correct as soon as you restart the car. Take the car to your dealer to get the fix. There is a TSB out on this problem and most dealers will be aware of it. They redesigned the catch tank and sensor and should replace yours under warranty. I had this done a couple years ago and haven't had the "flashing coolant" light come on since, even with 25 track days this year. Karl
Thanks for the info Karl. Take care. Mike
The coolant overflow tank was too small. Thermal expansion of all the coolant hoses in very aggressive driving caused the level in the tank to drop just enough to trigger the sensor. New coolant reservoir is bigger to compensate for that.
