Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ludic Transforms 996 911 into Retro Widebody Porsche By Brett Foote Like some sort of reverse restomod, Spanish builder Ludic takes a newish 911 and makes it look older.

POST 2Original post

I happen to agree with him. For me though, the best part of the video is when we get to see the licence plate.... classic!!!!!!! Is this anyone on here's car? You Tube

POST 3Original post

On one hand this is the whole could/should argument made real. But I also think it looks pretty well executed. it'd be interesting to see how people react to it at car shows...

POST 4Original post

This is awesome. Does your car handle like a dump truck compared to those cars? No it's still a 911. Is it slower? Hmm No. So you got a $20-$40k discount because your headlights have a weird shape and you have some plastic on the interior? Yes.

POST 5Original post

The wheels do really look trick... I remember them from the Porsche Matchbox cars I had when I was a kid...

I love Doug's write ups. He is a true car guy and love his oddball reviews (examples: Qvale Mangusta, TVR tuscan, Plymouth Prowler, Defender 90). I know this is the 996 forum and I know you guys are for the most part going to agree with me, but i never understood the "hate" for the 996. IMHO, i thought this was a very good transition vehicle from the past to the future of 911. Lest we forget, Porsche was in financial trouble during the 996's inception. Was build quality the greatest, probable not. What is most important though is that The 996 did not lose its "911 spirit". It was still rear engined, tricky at the limit, still had the flat 6 and still the ultimate daily driver sports car. Between the 996, Boxter and the Cayenne, this trio saved Porsche. You can thank these cars for vehicles like the Carrera GT, 918, RS models so on and so on.

POST 7Original post

I’d love to do a semi-mod along these lines and put the front fenders from the pre-993 911 on my 996. I miss the gorgeous curves from the driver’s POV that I had in my old 964 and 911SC. How hard is it to retrofit the old front quarter panels/headlights to the 996?

POST 10Original post

I know we all like our cars but honestly, wouldn't you rather it had a Mezger engine? And if you had an extra fifty or sixty thousand to throw at a car, is the 996 really the car you would buy? It is great bang for the buck, but with just a little more money, one can do better.

POST 11Original post

"And if you had an extra fifty or sixty thousand to throw at a car..." Hmmm...very clear and concise writing ^there^. So which is it, $50k - 60K ? Or, "but with just a little more money, one can do better" ??? Really? An extra $50-60k puts you in the $70-80k range, so no - I don't think you'd be looking at a 996...geezzzzz

POST 12Original post

Was about to reply but I see dporto handled this. He is basically saying if you had triple the amount of money, e.g., $70-80k to spend vs. $20-25k to spend, wouldn't you buy something else? That is like saying, if you had triple the amount to spend on a house, wouldn't you buy something else? We could play this all day.

My wife and I put our 996 in a European Concourse this past weekend. Over 250 cars, the only car that wouldn't start when it came time to leave, yes, an Air Cooled 911. Fuel pump issue. Every 996 started. It starts to get old the 996 bashing.
