POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys, considering a 996, as well as a Boxster/ Cayman S and some older 911's. I was wondering if someone could tell me if the 996 C2 coupe would have enough room for my needs. The car would be for fun, and road trips to my home town for long weekends, or a week at a time in the summer. It is a 650 km trip, and I need room for me, my wife, luggage, and our 10 year old 50 lb American Staffordshire Terrier. The dog could likely hang out in the back with seats flat, yes? How much luggage fits in the frunk, and would I be able to fit extra in the back area along with the dog? Any help, or pctures would help out greatly. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

If your wife packs like most women you're never gonna make it. Without the dog you can do it, so put the terrier in the front seat. (Sorry, couldn't resist). Good luck!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thought about that, but I think that would be grounds for divorce. Just kidding We usually don't pack that much, expecially in the summer as it's mostly shorts etc. Usually one large soft sided bag works for both of us. We also have a number of smaller bags as well. I seen the front of a 997, and it looked like it had almost no room in the frunk...is the 996 exactly the same? The Boxster and Cayman both seem like they can hold quite a bit.

POST 5Original post

My wife is a conservative packer, but always wants to have a Mid-sized Colman Cooler on board ( just in case all the healthy food is sold out at our destination ). Non-the-less we traveled to Parade this year - 10 days on the road - and had room for a roll-on hard bag ( just fits in overhead on a plane ) in the Frunk with a few soft items + two soft small duffel's and the cooler in the back seat. Now my guess is the Dog is not much bigger that the cooler so you should be OK. Also note - my Carrera is a C4 which has a smaller Frunk. The 996 and 997 have significantly more room in the interior than a 993 or earlier car.

POST 6Original post

The back seats should accomadate the dog and maybe a soft bag like a back pack. The frunk is debatable. Not much room because of the spare tire but if you pack light you should be ok. A smallish hand bag in the passenger foot well at a pinch. Thats if your wife doesnt mind.

POST 7Original post

Should be fine if the front spare is out for more room and the wife packs light. Granted, my spare is out for weight savings and since I have larger rims now....plus roadside assistance. Actually, my rear seats have been removed also....LOL.

POST 8Original post

C2 has more frunk space than the C4, keep that in mind. I think it would be a tight squeeze. You can always get a roof rack.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I would be looking at a C2 for sure. I checked one out yesterday, and found the "frunk" to be acceptable. It would be a squeeze, but I'm sure it would be okay.

POST 10Original post

No chance in my opinion... I also have a 50lb or so dog and with the coupe when you fold the rear seat backs down it is not to the bottom seat cushion. They actually stop above them which only gives you so much head room. Unless the dog wants to lay down on the entire trip I do not think you will have enough headroom for him.

POST 12Original post

no. unless you travel really light. the dog or luggage will have to stay behind... or the wife.. your call

POST 13Original post

...so put the dog on the roof rack; Romney style.

POST 14Original post

Leave your dog behind and you will be fine. Plenty of room for soft luggage. No room for a 50 lb dog in backseat.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, that will be a problem as we take our dog with us everywhere. He's 10 years old, and doesn't do well being left behind even with friends. He used to fit in the back of my old 944 with luggage in the back, and the rear seats folded down. He's 50 lbs, but he's not that big physically, just muscular being that he's an Amstaff. Hmmm, not sure what to do...

POST 16Original post

My dog is a bit bigger (62 pounds) and in a pinch when I have to take him somewhere in my car he has to ride in the front seat. The back seats fold down but it wouldn't be a comfortable ride for him, plus I don't know how well they'll hold up with all of that weight moving around a bunch like dogs usually do.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

He's usually restless for say half an hour, then just goes to sleep on his little bed we bring along with us.

POST 18Original post

The rear seat backs can be removed easily in about 10 minutes. The seat bottoms pull out as well. This should provide ample space for your dog.

POST 19Original post

This summer me, my girlfriend and our 3 year old daugther made a 600 Km trip (one way) and we were out for about 5 days in my 996 C2 2002. My daugther has a backward facing baby seat and I have removed the rear back rests for more leg room for her. On the way home we actually stopped at a discount store and bought a lot of clothes, blankets etc (about a normal shopping trolley full of cloths). IT WAS TIGHT BUT NO PROBLEM! As long as you use soft bags, the frunk swallows quite a lot of stuff. Robert
