2004 996 Turbo Cabrio US Spec, car was already registered in Europe when I bought it, got it with a non-working key fob. After doing some research (mostly on these forums, great content!), I found out that US cars operate on 315Mhz, which is reserved as a military frequency in Europe, while EU cars operate on 433Mhz. I even read that in some countries (Germany for example), US imported cars needed to be converted from 315Mhz to 433Mhz in order to be registered. My car came from Poland, I don’t know if the fob was simply broken or desync’ed , a conversion was attempted or even performed. All I know is I am now stuck with a non-working 2 button key fob, without the 24 digit code. Car has an M535 Unit on it. I am now in the process of ordering a new fob and attempt to program it, so I have a bunch of questions: is the M535 Unit an indication that the car is still on the US specs? or EU cars have the same type of unit? Is there any way I can check what kind of fob I need, US (315Mhz) or EU (433Mhz)? Trying to understand if a conversion was attempted or the car is still original considering I am ordering a new remote and assuming I am still on 315Mhz, is it possible to order a 3 buttons fob (for Japan spec’ed cars for example) and have the 3rd button (convertible roof operation) working? Or should I stick to the 2 button (US version) that came as OE? Thanks!
