Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mandatory I got my first 996 post. Ive had 997/997/981/991 as far as water cooled cars, and my most recent/current P car is a 993 C4S. Like many have said, the 996 fits in such a sweet spot between old and new. I drove the same roads back to back on Sunday and even though the 996 is out of alignment and on old rubber it felt so planted and with the X51 is outright quick. The car is bone stock and Im looking forward to doing some OEM+ mods, but for the most part leaving it alone. My biggest complaint by far is that its sooooo quiet. The 993 sounds soo good, and before that I had a 7.1 GT3 that screamed like a banshee, so this is like a Camry in comparison. Fister exhaust asap. I have coilovers inbound as I hate the stock ride height, and want to get the dark gray LMs. Other than that 996 GT3 buckets/inserts and Ill be done. I really think this car will be a keeper for a while. Its just so good and so much car for the money.

POST 2Original post

Before I built my house and moved in my neighbor had a pristine standard 930 that he tracked. I just figured out the 996 has slightly more HP and weighs less, giving the 996 better numbers on the road. And it has air conditioning that works! The 930 was a car I held in awe. Now I want to go back and give him a run.

POST 3Original post

looks to be an Anniversary car by the wheels, rear badge and the turbo bumper and as you mentioned x51 does the plaque in front of the shifter show a number ?

POST 4Original post

Looks like you scored a 40th Anniversary Edition. These cars were a GTS trim before such a thing existed. Each car is numbered, and came standard with the X51 power kit, m030 sports suspension, turbo front bumper and radiators, limited slip differential, full leather interior and exclusive Carrera GT silver paint. And if your car still has the Anniversary Edition luggage set that came with the car, you really scored. Congrats. Be sure to check out the 40th Anniversary owners group and get your car in the registry.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone! Yes it is a 40th, #271! Unfortunately, it did not come with the luggage. It only 37k miles and is pretty pristine, but has some deferred maintenance to be done so thats the first order of business.

POST 6Original post

Congrats on the car, you really did well for yourself! Looking forward to seeing the updates/upgrades!

POST 8Original post

Once you get the Fister exhaust fitted, you'll have a smile a mile wide! It's just such a perfect sounding exhaust. Love mine!

POST 9Original post

Congrats and that's a great combo to own! The 40AE is such a great platform to build on. Great blend of power, nimbleness and that fantastic steering feel. #1111 owner here.

thank you, unfortunately the 993 is on the way out and the overlap is just a couple of weeks. Ive loved spending time in the garage just staring at them together, comparing the differences, similarities, etc.

POST 11Original post

Congrats on the cherry 40th AE !!! Amazing to have so many Porsche models to compare to and praise the 996 !!!! ( and I completely agree ...!!!)

POST 12Original post

I too ordered Pfister before I even had the car in my garage. It took almost exactly 4 weeks from order to delivery. I did the install myself this weekend. (Make sure you get the new clamps and bolts). I had to make a hardware store run when one of the bracket bolts (not included in the bolts from FD Motorsport) broke but it was easy to replace. Excellent product and the results are perfect. Sounds *exactly* how it should from the factory. enjoy
