My 996 MK1 2000 c2 Manuel hood latch wont budge - not sure whats going on with it - it feels like its locked in place - anyone have this happen i have had it stored since mid October and it was working fine when I stored it I got a new Porsche trickle charger and plugged it in but went to take it out and drive the car for a few days and the battery was dead I dont know why this charger did not work - battery is totally dead but that should not effect the manuel hood latch right - the engine latch works fine

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...cked-help.html found out something new about having a dead battery on my car
So my 2000 does not have a post in the fuse box- is the a spot in the eninobay?
Sounds like its stuck, you can try and locate the hood release cable under the bumper. If its a manual/cable release it won't have the jumper terminal
It was a surprise to me too. Even thought the latch is mechanical in a MY 2000, it won't unlock without a good battery. You can pop the engine compartment without a battery and then jump it.
The electrical locking/unlocking must form part of the alarm system?

where in the engine bay do you hook up the jumpers?

Open the rear hatch, connect the positive to the terminal in the jumper box with the + on it (you will see it to the right of the engine bay). Connect the negative to the bolt that secures the airbox in place.
Can anyone post a picture of the location of the location of the jumper box? I am not sure my 2000 996 has one

I don't have a pic handy, but it's right above the A/c compressor , mounted to the passenger side intake manifold. A little black box about 1.25x 1.75 inch, has a + sign on it and a lid that opens, big cables going in and out. You can't miss it !! There is an electric lock solenoid on the mechanical cable levers for frunk and deck lid. when you get power to the car, just lock and unlock with remote and the levers ,should then work. Yes early cars don't have the pull out connection in the fuse box, but you can apply enough power to the cigar lighter to lock and unlock to release the cable lever lock, then get under frunk or deck lid to apply cranking power.
Here it is from the MY 2000 owners manual
Thank you very much for the info - this is great !! My Wife turned the spare bedroom into a photo studio and I hade the owners manual for the 996 stored in a dresser in the bedroom - I need to do a deep dive to find out where she moved it to
