Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

First post here. First week with my newly purchased 2000 C2. Already love the car even though it has the dreaded oil in coolant problem. Bought the car fully aware of this problem and paid accordingly. No regrets. So I am weighing out a wide variety of different options for addressing the problem. While I am trying to make my "long term" decision, I have been seeing a fair amount of available 3.2L Boxster S motors available for prices well below similar 3.4 M96 engines. While this will definitely not be my long term solution, I am wondering how direct/indirect the interchange would be as far as putting one of these motors in my 2000 996. I would not be opposed to swapping out any/all accessories necessary to make this work. I am thinking of taking this route as a way to stave off rushing into/through my long term solution It would allow me to drive the car albeit slightly limited, while working through the long term solution. I guess while I am asking the question I might as well go one step further and ask about the even more foolish idea of putting in a 2.7L temporarily. (Would be even cheaper on the used market than the 3.2L). I am sure many will find this proposition really foolish however I would like to know the answers even if just to satisfy my curiosity. For those curious about my long term considerations, I have boiled it down to the following 3 top options: 1. Flat6 Innovations Engine 2. LS Engine 3. Rebuild engine myself. Perhaps with the option of starting with a better core. Would also consider taking the Flat6 Rebuild Course prior to taking this on myself. I look forward to hearing about the Boxster S/Boxster interchange. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Personally I think a 2.7 in there would be just not enough. Having owned a 3.2 Boxster S and going to a 996 it was a noticeable power difference, and my Boxster had a nice Fabspeed exhaust, intake, and tune, though Im really not sure how much all that adds, but lets say a little bit. It was still a large difference going to the 911. Is a 3.2 so down on power that you wouldnt enjoy the heck out of the car? I dont think so. But for the price of buying that engine wouldnt you be better off getting the heads redone and cleaning out the engine? I know some members on here have gone that route, and it did not require a full engine rebuild. Best of luck to you though on whatever you decide to do! And hell, if you do put the Boxster engine in there for awhile, when you swap it out again it would make an awesome coffee table!!

Thanks for the feedback! I feel as though in either case, the 3.2 or 2.7, I would not be happy with the power however I would get enough enjoyment out of the car to keep me from rushing through my next steps. On the flip side of getting the proper power back in the 996, I actually might have a home for the proxy engine in my 1972 VW Camper van. (I'm full of bad ideas).

POST 4Original post

Has the oil and coolant lines been flushed clean yet, If not how long has it been sitting like this?

POST 5Original post

I have a 3.4 in my 2000 996 that I'm offering for sale in the classifieds. Or buy the whole car and have spare parts for all of your fun projects.

POST 6Original post

My vote would be to rebuild the engine yourself.
