I was under the impression that the cars damaged in the recent hurricanes in Texas and Florida were going to be crushed. This is what was said to have been done in Louisiana after Katrina. There are now some Porsche parts surfacing on ebay that are from flood cars, last one I saw today is located in Texas, it is clearly a flood car. Just beware buying anything electrical or mechanical used.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Seems a shame to destroy a car that was flooded - lots of parts could still be useful. At the cost of a teardown, even an engine could be salvageable - yes?
Flood cars are sold through auctions.
There have been DOZENS of 996 Flood Cars popping up on Copart from both Houston and Florida. I don't think they would ever be crushed. Too much money to be made by dismantlers.
Yes, lots of them are being auctioned and put back on the road/track.(and parted out) Be careful about buying them sight unseen. After seeing a BUNCH of them in person, I’ve decided to stay away from them. Unless you can look it over well, it’s a HUGE gamble. The better ones are being picked up by the local guys...the cheap ones are toxic!
Some have salvagable titles and some have non-rebuildable titles. Non-rebuildable titles can only be scrapped, or turned into a track toy here in TX. Salvagable titles can be rebuilt and put on the street here in TX, but generally sell for a LOT less than wholesale when repaired.
My understanding was after Katrina, the feds helped insurance companies with reimbursements . But, they had to agree to scrap, to spur sales for replacement cars, generating sales tax revenues. But, I know a lot of them escaped the crusher.
I love the YouTube channel Car Guru (no affiliation with the classified site,) where he buys and repairs salvage Tesla Model S cars. He gives advice for buying salvage Teslas on his channel, and much of the advice and information is applicable to any salvage car one could buy. He often warns against buying salvage cars from "Inspection Service" companies as he says they often buy wrecks, fix them up a bit to look less wrecked, and resell for a small profit via eBay or even on another salvage auction site. The cars still have salvage titles, but they try to make the car look like less of a loss than it once did. A lot of the flood cars I'm seeing pop up again are from these Inspection Services so I'm betting this is their second round on the block. I saw tons of Houston cars on copart right after the bad flood.
I bought an ‘05 Boxster S Flood car out of Houston. The interesting thing is it shows no signs of any flood damage but definitely has some engine issues. The guy obviously just claimed it as a flood car for the insurance money. I got it through Woody’s Salvage in Bastrop so I knew exactly what I was getting. It should be a fun project if I can ever get far enough down the list to get to it.
