Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My article is the top story on the site, you should check it out! drivetribe.c om

POST 2Original post

Nice article. Third paragraph, the wording " the percentage of the cars reported to be effected differ from source to source" should be " the percentage of the cars reported to be affected differ from source to source". Not a big error, just a pet peeve among all the other common grammar errors like "their, they're and there"; "comprised of" rather than "consists of"; "your" and "you're", and the list goes on. I also liked the youtube video.

Glad that you liked it and thanks for the correction.

Not a fan of the article, to me it is misleading on several points you are trying to make. 1) The picture for the link shows a 996tt turbo that has an entirely different motor than the n/a 996. It seems a little click baity. 2) While you did mention the IMS issue that is well known, there are alot of other failures of the M96 motor design that are not mentioned. 3) You said that 5% ish of the cars that were made suffer from the IMS issue and that the high number of failures was not as high as "you were made to believe." There were about 155000 996 cars produced, that is about 8000 cars with motor failure from the IMS. That seems like alot to me. Also, this doesnt account for motor failures from other design flaws. 4) "Try to choose a tested and a tried solution rather getting advise from a kid with pimples who does have no 996 but a point to prove on the internet forums. " This sentence is a disaster...Typos and accusatory. 5)" The difference is in the design; the trouble makers are of a sealed nature with lifetime grease in them, whereas the ones in the aircooled engines are lubricated by engine oil." This is kinda misleading, the air cooled motors had a journal style bearing that was fed from the engine, it was not a roller bearing. You make it sound like the air cooled engines had an open roller bearing that was fed oil. 6) "The 996 values have already hit rock bottom and the only way is up, though how high or fast it remains to be seen." This is doubtful, the 996s will likely not climb much if any at all in the near future due to the nature of the motor. A decent 996 can be had very easily for 12-20k (in the US) and that has been the case for awhile and the market doesnt show much change in that area. 7) "How bad can 996 be when its the model between the darling of a 911, 993 that is and 997, which is great if not the best 911 overall." Pretty bad when compared to the 997.2 which abandoned the IMS altogether with the 9A1 motor. They abandoned it b/c well, its bad whether it is in a 996 or a 997.1. I agree with a lot of what you said in the article about how it drives, but you are making some contentious claims about the car. I am a big fan of the 996, but you cant gloss over its issues, there is more wrong with the design than just the IMS and its bearing. I am not bashing the article just to do it, but it is unfair to other new comers to the 996 market to supply this kind of info without some kind of retort.

I do not think that you are bashing the article, your remarks are welcome and here are my answers if you'd like: 1- The article was put on the homepage by the drivetribe admin along with the pic, hence my joy and urge to share with fellow 996 owners. The original article only has the pics of my car. 2- My intention was to keep the video under 7 minutes, otherwise you tend to lose the audience. There are lots of other stuff I would like to mention; good or bad but the headlights and the ims are the obvious ones that I could fit in (the article is made out of the script of the video. Yes, the article could be made longer but again like the video, people may lose patience) I am also aware of things like rms, bore scoring etc. 3- This is rather subjective, what I tried to point out was, most people are made to believe there are 996s with engines blowing every second. So 5 % may sound a lot to you and that is understandable, especially if you are one to suffer. 4- Not 100 % politically correct and you have the right not to like it. 5- This was not my intention, I stand corrected if this is what people get from it. 6- They are indeed going up on the other side of the pond. 7- 997.2 is mentioned as direct injection cars. Thanks again for taking the trouble and going through the details, your feedback is appreciated. Best, Burak
