Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Tried installing the wind screen in a new to me 996 cabriolet. The two tabs that are supposed to slide above the seat belt slots on both sides seem to be too close together. If I insert both, and then try locking the front corners, one or the other tab pops out. See photos below. Can't seem to get it to fit at all like it's supposed to. Am I doing something wrong? Near side tab has popped out (both fronts are locked). Note that the tab is inboard of the seat belt slot. Tab inserted. Locked, correctly Part number seems correct

POST 2Original post

Check to make sure the tab in the centre is aligned with the female receptacle on the windscreen. Tab is dead centre of the car and holds the screen at the joint where it folds.

yes, thank you. I did have that part correct.

POST 4Original post

Strange. Keep trying, it took me a few times to get it sorted.

POST 5Original post

Could you take a picture of the tabs that slot into the sides above the speakers and when they are both in place, take a picture ot the horizontal portion showing that one side is in and one side is out?

Im quite sure its the first photo I showed. If I first engage the tabs on the horizontal portion (at the top of the seat belts), then engage one side tab when I try to engage the second side tab then one of the horizontal tabs pop out, as seen in the first photo. The horizontal tabs span is less than the seatbelts span.

So I did this, and got it to work! My 'mistake' initially was expecting that the two tabs on the rear edge line up directly with the seat belts. In fact, they're slightly inboard of the seat belt. Once I allowed for that everything fit. Thanks. By the way, does the wind screen help a lot / needed? (I have yet to drive with the top down).

Glad you finally got it on correctly... Once you know how its on or off in seconds. In the cold winter months I use it all the time. Seat heat on, top down, enjoying the crisp winter nites in S FL.... For me, the windscreen helps a lot more with the windows up. With windows down and screen up its a little better but not much,. A little quieter inside the cabin with windscreen up also. jmo

The wind screen is a huge hit with the ladies, who don't have hair blowing in their face. It also is great when your passenger wants to read the NY Times while you are on your way to the beach. Pages don't fly around. I only drive with the top down and the windows up and never use the wind screen if driving solo. Also, you should know that you can leave the screen in place and put the top up so you don't have to take it down. Question. Where are the little round covers that hide the hardtop receivers?
