So a nice lady backed into the front of my car this summer and dented the drivers quarter panel and in doing so broke the mounting tabs for the headlight on that side. Her insurance handled the repair at the Porsche approved body shop (which did a great job) so that's a good thing. But my question is this : are boxter headlights exactly the same as 996 mk1 headlights? I want to get a new passenger side light to match the new drivers side.

No. Some had amber turn signals, some had clear (around 2000?) and some had Litronics (optional starting in 1999). The Mk1 996 and all Boxster 986 headlights are interchangeable.
