Currently in the process of shopping for a 996. Have two IMS related questions. 1. According to this article ( https://www.oregonpca.org/resources/...he-full-story/ ) 1999 model year had a dual row bearing, which is more reliable than the single row bearing on the later model years. However this article ( http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cult...a-porsche-996/ ) says the opposite, claiming that the earlier cars are more susceptible to IMS bearing failure. Which source is correct? 2. It looks like there are two way to prevent IMS bearing failure. One is to install "IMS Retrofit", and the second is to install "IMS Solution". IMS solutions seems to be a better choice because it does not require further bearing replacements. Are there any drawbacks to the Solution, besides the fact that the kit is more expensive to buy? Are there any reasons I would want the "Retrofit" instead of the "Solution"? Thanks in advance!

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
